Sibyl, it's really difficult to see details as your picture is very blurred. The size is fine. wink

Your mystery plant may be one of the Gaillardia, possibly G. aristata. Could you try for another photo that shows the flower and foliage in more detail?

I love a good Mystery plant! wink

Sibyl,
I agree, about the size, it's great.
But can't see the flowers or stems' very well,
do you have a different picture or angle of the flowers????

Yes, gaillardia is one of my guesses also, I can't really tell from the picture which foliage goes to the flower, but other guesses would be orange cosmo (which is what the foliage looks like to me in that pic) or coneflower(echinacea big sky 'sundown' or 'sunset') which would be the two color blend as you said.

Kinda looks like poppies to me. But too small to be Iceland poppies.
Can you take a flower and a few leaves to a nursery for identification?

laugh This has been an interesting thread to follow and I'm soooooooo curious as to the actual ID of the red flowers. I tried to edit the first picture to make the flowers easier to see but my picture isn't much better. The "fuzzy" yellow centers and foliage still make me lean toward something in the Rudbeckia, Echinaceae or Gaillardia families, especially Gaillardia. wink

The shape of the flowers makes me think it could be Helenium. Sibyl, did you "google" Helenium?? But then again, Helenium does not have that lacy foliage. Very interesting

on my flowers i have a red color on the top side of the petales and yellow on the bottom side of the petals,
on the link i posted if you look at the very bottom flower that looks like its wilting, youll see the bottom side of the petals all yellow,
my flowers dont have the yellow edges , but its the closest thing ive found so far, if it wernt for the yellow around the top petales ,and a darker red, it would be a perfect match, im pretty shure its a coreopsis, i just have to find its name,

Sibyl, a little off track, your signature pic looks like my babies. Those are Rotti's? Do you have puppies?
We breed them and just finished a litter.

Sibyl,
Just outta curiousity...
Are the two pictures,
*the first one you posted and the second one you posted with the little boy in the picture*
Are they the same flower in question????

To me, the first one looks straight orange/rust colored..
The second one, I do see a tinge of yellow like..

So, to me, they look different..

Either way, I think we've got at the very least the "Family" of your plant..
So, I am hopin' that we got some info for you..
