Hello. I just received two (2) African Violets. I always heard that it was good for houseplants to have some outdoor time, in nice weather. I was thinking of planting the African Violets outdoors for the summer. Has anyone done this? Does anyone have any recommendations regarding this? Thanks!

African violets need protection from any direct sunlight, from temps below 60 degrees, and cold rain on their leaves. If you can find such a protected spot outside, then go ahead. Otherwise, they will do just fine if left indoors year round. The benefits of going outside in summer are negligible.

when i first got a african violet i thought the same thing. I burned the heck out of the leaves and killed them. its best to just keep indoors :)- alot of plants do not do good if put outside. its a shame because youd think they would like it but the shrivel and get sunburned. the only plants i put outside is my dwarf citrus other than that if they are doing well where i had them they stay put smile good luck african violets are my favorite smile i even have one named after me smile

Thank you, Will and Cassviola for your replies. Cassviola, thanks so much for sharing your personal experience! I was all set to put them outside. I really thought they would have liked it.

Thanks, again.
