Hi there!

I just bought a new house today. I will post a picture of the view from the back yard:
[Linked Image]
The yard is fairly large, and there are one or two spots along the fence that I would like to put up some privacy bushes/trees that would grow to between 8 and 12 feet. However, the spots are very shady.

Any thoughts on what could be grown down here in the shade that would work? Thanks in advance,

Big Jim

Thatis beautiful! Try http://www.thegardenhelper.com/fs~perennials.html it has a pretty good list of plants you could try! I recommend a bleeding heart but I'm not sure if FL might be too hot?

Ha ha! I don't think there are any gators. Lots of ducks though. It's quack-tastic!

Is it a light shade or a dense shade?

Hi, Jim,
In case you haven't yet decided,I suggest you
consider a podocarpus, like that shown here, offered by a firm in Stuart, FL. Click the photo for the website:

The podocarpus, like the yew, provides an elegant screen for the property.

G - mom, I would say a bit of light may sneak in during the late afternoon. It's fairly bright though as most of the shade comes from an oak tree above.

BigJim,
Just a thought for something that would offer privacy without completely closing off your view, you could put dogwoods with azalias underneath. They both prefer shade.
