There are things poking their heads up, all over in my gardens, so I decided to throw a clump of Daffodils into a pot so I could bring them inside & have flowers early. (Thinking spring!) Duh

I would have said a combo of two things maybe,
Yes to more of the dirt *because usually those are planted pretty deep and are used to growing distances to get to the surfaces...
and maybe the other is lighting when it first
came up and out of the soil...

Wow! They look great! Major case of zone envy here!

I would say no because the roots need to have room in the pot and you'll need to water them a lot. Also the less disturbance, the better. However, they will be more likely to have the foliage flop when they are elevated like that. You'll need to put a little stake in there and wrap them up before that happens.

I did the same thing. But even though the tops of the bulbs pushed through my soil I didn't get any discoloration. So I'm thinking maybe it's not getting enough light. But that is a guess.

I dug mine up as well(for the move) and the lighter parts were under the soil- I would say pot them up deeper. Cover the lighter parts. They look great! My neighbors across the street have tons of blooms on theirs, but none on mine. My puppy ate the only bloom pod I had :p

They didn't waste any time getting happy indoors! They started opening up today, & I expect them to be in full bloom tomorrow!
[Linked Image]

I looked at the ones outside after I posted my question, & they were all whitish at the base of the stems too. While it probably wouldn't have hurt to put them in a bigger pot & add more soil, I left them as they were.

Tammy & Joclyn were on the right track, cuz they greened up after a couple days of sunshine through the window! Duh

PartyGirl, the stalks seem to be pretty sturdy & thick, so I don't think they're going to flop over. Duh Will have to wait & see, but I don't think I've ever seen Daffs staked up before. (It IS interesting that some of our flowers are so top heavy, that it's a wonder those skinny stems can hold them up!)

I thought I was bringing more flowers inside, but I guess I wasn't paying attention when I dug up this clump... Out of the 20 plants that are in this pot, there are only 4 flowers! Duh (I know that the babies don't flower the 1st year, but what about the Moms?)

My yard is crammed full of these right now, so I think I'll do it again tomorrow & get more flowers in here! (Tonya, next year maybe you should pot yours & put them out of your flower-muching puppy's reach!) [Linked Image]
