I think I may have killed my two Hibiscus plants.
I don't even know how. They are in very large pots that I had on my patio. We moved and they were ok. But over the winter they dropped all of their leaves. I brought them indoors when it dropped below 55 so they didn't get cold.

Did I kill them or are they hibernating some how?

I did notice a prolific amount of "armadillo" type bugs in the soil, although I changed the soil previously.

Help!

Hibiscus will often drop there leaves in winter when kept indoors...they will go dormant. Mine has no leaves at this point either, but the stems are still supple and there's a little green on the tips so I know it's still alive. Once your weather gets warm enough, set it outside and it should leaf out in a few weeks.

Thank you so much! I will do as you said and see what happens. Can or should I plant these in the ground? If I do will I have to dig them up each fall or can they stay out?

Tropical Hibiscus isn't hardy, so you'd need to dig it up each fall if you aren't in a warm zone.

I have a hardy Hibiscus. Love it! You can literaly cut a branch and stick it in the ground and it will root and you have a new plant!!! I just cut mine down to about a 6 inch piece sticking out of ground each fall after the leaves fall off and it comes back every summer with a vengence! It is a branch off my mother's Hibiscus that rooted. She also has tropicals in her house. One flowered daily all winter and one lost some of it's leaves and only flowered about one flower a week, maybe. They are pretty plants.

I like them too.........But found out they are magnets for white fly indoors an outside beetles.

However I still have my hardy ones out there .. I have one huge one for a background on my computer. It is white with a red eye.

Is that why (besides that I live in Oklahoma and June bugs thrive here) I have a seemingly enormous amount of grubs in my garden? I hate those nasty looking things. I have to kill them this year. I believe they eat on roots right??

There you go.....Why not put the dead slugs etc.
In a jug or something an shut the lid.. In the fall dispose of them.
Thats in case they are just drunk and will revive??

Hmm....I wasn't sure if my crazy notion of buying a tropical hibiscus was really that great, until it started popping open hundreds of beautiful flowers. I bought the "Santana" at a Fred Meyer's out of boredom with their "other" selections. I went thru the summer just fine, but once I brought it indoors it dropped all it's buds and leaves, so I moved it to my little library where it recovered. However....it doesn't seem to want to bloom and I discovered spider mites on lots of the leaves. I have Neem, but it says in the directions, not to use it on hibiscus. So I went to a hibiscus specific site and found that they recommended Neem. Now I'm torn and not sure what to do...I don't want to kill it and I washed the spider mites off with soapy water but that never seems to work for more than a couple days for me. Any suggestions?

diagones,

Try taking water in a spray bottle and just spray them every day......
Underside of the leaves and the tops.
Not harmful.. I am doing that to the white fly plants inside now.. And it seems to help ..

Let me know.
It it doesnt work, add a drop of dish detergent to the water and spray..

Try plain water first.
