My neighbor has some of this weed in her garden, and it's popping up all throughout the grass and spreading. Does anyone know what it is? This is a bit of a bad picture because I sort of flattened it. It naturally curls up and inwards a bit on the 2 lower parts (I hope you know what I mean). They're also a lot smaller than they appear in this picture. Although you should be able to tell if you compare it with my hand. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give!

Oh and here's the picture. I guess it would help if I uploaded it, wouldn't it?

I should also add that it's a lot darker of a green color than it appears in this picture, due to the flash. Also, it pops up 1 here and 1 there, so it's not like a normal weed, that would have more than 1 leaf. This only has 1. Thanks!

Here's another picture of them in their natural habitat here.. the grass! You wouldn't believe how many of them are just spread all over it. Just about the entirety of her grass is covered like this:

Wow do you think Violet leaves would spread like that? And only one here and one there?

I just looked up Violet Leaves on Google and I think you're right. They look exactly like them. That is so weird! So I guess if her grass wasn't mowed then violets would bloom all over her lawn? LOL

Ok it's listed as a weed on this site, and says that the perennials produce by "creeping rhizomes". So this definitely does make sense!

I just hope they don't creep over to my yard, because we basically share a back yard (no fence). I don't know what I'll have to do to get rid of them if they start taking over my garden space, too. Thanks so much for your fast ID!

You can send them to me! LOL! We had them all over the yard as kids (Mom often had cups of violets and/or dandilions sitting in the window that we had picked for her), and at our house before this one. I just love them the flowers are beautiful and they never get very tall. Perhaps because they are mowed?

Gardenkitten,
Can you go and squeeze it, or
rub it so you can smell it???

It looks to me like a Garlic Mustard (Alliaria petiolata) ,
but not 100% sure....

Hi Weezie~ I rubbed and smelled them and there was no scent. They really do look almost identical though! I'm 99.9% sure now that they are violets. Only one day after I posted this, I heard of someone else on another forum who lives very close to me having the exact same problem with violets. Her lawn looked exactly like this one! They really are a problem. Thanks again everyone, I appreciate all the help! You all had very great guesses with things that looked almost identical, if not identical!

That's true... so many times leaves start
out similar and it's hard to identify plants...
*that's why we ask people to smell, or feel,
or get better pictures..*
I am so glad everyone could help in identifying
your weed..
