The coconut threw me for a minute. I am allergic so that would not have been good. Looking forward to trying this one out.

There is no coconut.. We just ate some, delicious,

It tastes more like a custard to me.. My man took one bite an said delicious....

I didn't have buttermilk, so I used sour milk.
Just add a tablespoon vinegar to regular milk and you got it .........I been doing that lots.

Angelblossom............delicious. I didnt have enough pecans on hand and did it quick.. It was really a wonderful treat.

Thanks for sharing..

I've done some experimenting!! I doubled the amount called for on the pecans! Wow what a difference in taste some of them even fall thru into the pie and makes it even more scumpcious!
also added Juuuuust a scoche' of nutmeg and another 1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla extract I really like it even better this way!

No .............It is much more delicious.
I ate the Amish shoo fly pie, and it tasted like sand....
I was dissappointed in shoo fly.

Try Buttermilk and see..it is also not expensive .

Happy Baking..;o)

I think I read once that either buttermilk pie or shoo fly pie was Abraham Lincoln's favorite pie.

I just made a buttermilk pie last night to take to my mom's today to let everyone try it out. I would taste test it myself but it would look funny to bring a pie with a piece already cut out of it. laugh It looks yummy though.

My Grandpa absolutely loved that pie. I had brought a copy of the recipe over to my mom's with me just in case he liked it. He's a huge buttermilk fan. Everyone else thought it was pretty good, except for my brother, who wouldn't even try it. I had to cook it a lot longer than 35 mins. though. I think my oven needs cleaning. Thanks again for sharing that recipe Angelblossom. It was better than I thought, very custard like.
