Hello does anybody grow Drosera (sundews)? I have a Drosera Capensis and a Drosera Binata. I know you can grow new ones from cuttings or seeds and I dont know what potting soil would be the best. What potting soil would you reccomend for me? Have any of you had any success with cuttings or seeds before with Drosera Capensis or Binata? Thanks. -Aaron

Ok thank you angelblossom. Yeah that is a pretty good site.... the guy who wrote it must have a good sense of humor. I was just posting this to see if anyone had ever gotten any success from any of the methods of propagation.

On my sarracenia Im going to try a cutting in the spring when its healthier but Ive already tried a cutting of my Drosera Binata and I put it in a dish of water and it hasnt showed any signs of dying so I guess its possible to reproduce that one with leaf cuttings. Ill have to try putting it in soil next as soon as I find out what kind to use. I still have to try it with the Drosera Capensis though.

Hi Aaron My starts are looking ucky eek turning yellow and black edges on some leaves Tomarrow when I feel better I'll take out rinse with rain water and put in moist perlite and see if there is a change( after dicarding yellow and black bad leaves),, It would be interesting of either of us are successful Huh?? Pretty cool we both are experimenting with this same method if it isn't successful I will try again in the spring after new growth starts!

Sure Ill keep you posted. Its almost been two weeks now and the leaf isnt showing any signs of dying. I wont have time to plant any into soil for a while so Ill see how it does until then. Good luck on yours. Ill PM you or post another topic when I have some luck.

Soon Im going to add a new Drosera to my collection- a Drosera Spatulata. Im ordering it from World of Carnivores and they give you soil with it so now I dont have to worry about finding soil somewhere. I havent quite yet started reproducing the Drosera I have but one of the cuttings I have has survived in water for a few weeks now and now its starting to brown a little. But thats ok because it was only an experiment and I expected it to die in pure water. Now the next step is putting a new cutting in soil so it doesnt die and forms more.

Ok I said Id keep you posted on my progress... well its good news now. I never got around to ordering the spatulata (Yet) but this morning I looked at the Drosera Binata cutting I put in water about a month ago and I saw it now has little plantlets growing out of it. So now tomorrow Ill get some soil and put it in actual soil. I cant wait!

I got the new Spatulata and it seems to be doing ok. Not 100% but ok. I planted the Binata in soil and it is growing bigger and bigger and it starting to get big enough to where the leaves have sticky hairs now.
