Ok..explain this to me better. I have multiplying onions in a separate bed, I got them from my mother last spring....these never grow big onions...but do make the top sets, which are about the size of the onion sets you buy at the store. I have not used any of these, as I am waiting until they make top sets so that I know they will be multiplying first.

That sounds like the Egyptian Walking onion--a different type of multiplier onion than the potato onion. The potato onion doesn't produce top sets. Egyptian Walking Onions grow perennially in beds.
