Pretty, pretty...

pot is very light until you get it filled with plants and soil. Not really that heavy then. Can be on a chain as I have it or on a rod or seperatley. this winter will probably break it down as no place in house to hang pots like that.

Love all the ideas for hens and chicks...now to go see my mom and snitch some of hers!

How do you plant THESE? I GOTTEN SOME LONG AGO, FROM AN GAL..BUT ROTTEN.I got some new babies..that someone just sended..but need to know..how really to plant them..maybe in n pot., but how much soil, rocks, or what to use

Chickens and hens? They are adorable!!!!! I wonder where I can get them around here (Florida). The shoe idea is too cute. They are succulents??

they are succulents and finding them that will grow and be happy in our wet weather here in the south is hard, but i've finally accomplished it, i think...

I am unable to keep them alive if I plant them in the ground, but if I plant them in a container or pot...they survive just fine. I think that we get way too much moisture here in my spot in Arkansas, and in a pot they can drain off that rain better. It seems that all of our mothers grow them. I got mine from my mom, she has one of those half whiskey barrels full, hers is over crowded and she wants to move some of them out of the barrel, but hasn't figured out where, she gave me all I could find in her flower beds to get rid of them out her beds. Here is what hers looks like:

Its really not purple..its just weathered wood. I wish they would grow and multiply like that for me.

Try an old wheelbarrow tipped sideways like PattyS did, that might work for you and drainage.

They look like artichokes...sort of!! They're very cute. I don't see them around here...

I think maybe cause your area/growing zone
maybe tooooo hot for them..
They need a cold winter and that type...

I do think they are up to growing zones
8 or 9...

Yes, I am in Western New York...
*about an hour South of Buffalo*
(which side are you on??)
and I do NOT bring them in for winter..
They love winter... they'll stay green under
the snow all winter long...

I second what Weezie said - they don't mind the freezing temps here either, and come back better each year.

I have a small group of the cobwebs, Rita - but they are the only ones that are not growing for me - it's still the same very small size it was when I got it last summer - sorry.
