I've got pods growing on my daylilly plants.I've only got 2 kinds growing but actually 3,but the other has only had 2 flowers one which I pollinated 1 with.so about how long we looking at for these pods to ripen on them stems?I've already pulled the spent stems with no pods& still have new stems shooting up& still blooming(quiet long this year too& a 1st for pods....being I only did 2 intened pods) I'll let the seeds dry then store them chilled& winter sow in Dec.

But how long till ready?
I also have stargazer lillys that set seed pods as well.the pods are still green and bloomed in April. We been hot& dry.
I know the seeds will not be like the parent so will grow out in a seed bed and pull the colors for placeing in the future.

njoyet,

Have no idea what your talking about.. My stargazer .......lilys get bulbs in the grown next to the originals, and you can remove them in the fall and plant......
Dont know abut those seed stuff your quoting.

I have grown Daylilies from seeds. EASY!!!! You must cover the pods before they burst open. I use nylon hosiery. After they "pop" I plant them in dirt . I put mine under a shrub and forget about them. They get watered whenever I water my other stuff or when it rains. It takes about 2 years to get flowers. Mine bloomed for the first time this year. It's fun to do, so give it a try......

For the best results plant daylilly seeds in a seed bed (full sun) as soon as they're ripe. I don't cover the pods, I think that keeping a close eye on them and gathering immediately after the pod opens makes better sense. We all have our own ways of doing things.

I don't have any experience with star-gazer lillies, but I have grown amarillis from seed. I think the seeds are similar. The papery seeds aren't as easy as daylillies, requiring more effort expended keeping the soil moist.

You are in warmer climate.. It does make a difference in the germinating.

Sorry dodge, I don't understand your point. It looks like njoynit lives in Texas where my advise would seem to be applicable.
