I need info on plants surviveing fire.Their IS a book in the firehall on plants,but is from 1971 and lists mostly trees.binder sections on shrubby and foundation plantings is totally emptied.
I know most the tropicals are lost& smaller pots likely toast as well
My questionables are
Crinuim lillys/arrow vine?is growing in a 10 gallon black plastic pot& was actually near a doorway.less heat in that spot as is a wall standing there
bannana plant?its a baso cold hardy
buttefly bush?3 gallon nursery pot

those are the only ones I thought may posibly make it.

The salvia& jasmine are planted at base of the porch.the ground actually curves up like a ditch& ground had been wet from recent rain.I think the rose bushes are ok,but not the newly planted one friday.I stupidly choose 2 ft from house and we trellied it up a metal pole.


I have not seen the house close up yet.I was minding my nephews one who has ADHD and his pills had burned up& was raining outside to make matters worse.No more playstation 2& I can not STAND spongebob squarepants.I stopped and fed angel this morning,but was pitch black so I really did not see much.

njoynit did your house burn down??? Or a family members house???

My house in VA flooded...and was destroyed completely on the inside..I know first hand how stressful and awful this can be. The insurance Company will pay to replace the plants including trees in the yard if you have good insurance.

If the insurance Company gives you any trouble write to the State Insurance Commissioner..

njoynit sorry to hear about the house fire the main thing is hopefully everybody is ok and no one got hurt.I am sending out prayers to you and your loved ones.as far as the plants go you will just have to wait and see if you get any new sprouts from the root system on them.when i worked with the city we had a green house burn.the plants where written off as a total lose and the insurance Company paid for the green house and the plants.but i did manage to salvage some of the plants they came back from the root system.only time will tell.may god bless you and your family.your friend in gardening.mike57

Hygradge was fine...that wall stood cause the roof fell.
I found 1 crinuim the tip part is a lil scortched,but it might make it..I only found the crinuim cayuse found where the pot had melted& guess it all went sideways and fell under doorway area.

Was my SIL.We live rural.volenteer fire dept& they've lied on fire report.no way they responded when they say they did.when I got there was 12 minutes till they showed.and was not 6000 gallons of water used either.We have decided to add a sprinkler system in our house.They had no insurance.the roof had some damage from Rita .They had repaired the damage around the fireplace.they didn't know the chimmney had damage.It wasn't damaged when house was inspected in july,but that guy also didn't mention was a single walled liner.They use triple liners now in fireplaces.Next house will not have fireplace.building an outdoor one.
