Blossom end rot is what it looks like to me, Vanessa. It might need some calcium. We went through that last year with our first garden. Have only seen one tomato this year with it so far. This might help you out.

Ther are 6 other tomato plants in that bed and the rest of the plants are beautiful and covered with mators....would that affect just one plant?

It has only affected one tomato out of our whole garden so far this year, Vanessa. Last year it got a lot of them until we researched and found the problem. Egg shells around the base of the plant might help with just one plant. I don't know. We sprayed some kind of solution made especially for blossom end rot on ours last year. If I see another tomato like that on that same plant, I am going to try to just treat the one plant.

Blossom end rot is a calcium deficiency as dianna said. The eggshells etc work pretty slow as they have to be broken down to help. A dressing of dolomite pre season (yeah that helps now) can be beneficial.
You cn get some chelated calcium as a foliar application i think but i don't know much about it. Probably not worth worrying about for one lousy tomato though wouldn't you say. Maybe the eggshells or shellgrit crushed really fine and scuffed into the soil will have time to prevent further trouble on other plants????

Get some Epsom Salt
Sprinkle some at the drip line
and mix up a light mixture for a foliar spray.
***spray early in the morning, to allow the
spray to dry naturally off before the sun hits
the wet leaves..***

Thanks Longy...you're the best! I didn't grind the eggshell up real fine...so I think I will try that and look into the chelated calcium. WOW...who knew....I just learned about chelated iron & goodies (for human consumption) about 4 yrs ago....and now need it for the garden!
