I put a new garden in this year in mostly sun and acid soil (lots of pine needles). The garden didn't do very well and I also have a lot of holes chewed in the leaves. In fact, my columbine disappeared! Are there any suggestions on what to plant in the va beach area and what might be eating my plants?

Hi VA beach gardener - welcome to the forum! smile

Sounds like you might have flea beetles, japanese beetles, grasshoppers, slugs, snails laugh Hard to say what you have really - can you post a picture of the holes in your leaves?

As for the acidic soil, two plants that come to mind is hydrangea (as long as you can keep the soil moist, acidic isn't a problem), and rhododendron.
