We are on acidic soil and the islands (cloverleafs) are a lot of clay underneath. That's 'cause they've had to be dug up a lot - wires, gas lines, etc. So
growing grass is a battle.
I'm working on what I call the 'north island' right now. On the holiday Monday (Victoria Day) I weeded that lawn big time. All I left in there was the clover.
Then I spread some good topsoil - the kind that's got peat in it.
Tonight I'm going to hose it (even though there's been some rain), then I'm using a hand-seeder.
I chose a hand-seeder 'cause most of the seeding I do is in small patches at a time.
After I've done the
seed spread, I'm going to hose again.
Then I'm going to pray to all the gods that are in charge of gardening.
Hoo boy!
