Hi,

I have an Strelitzia planted in front yard (zone 10b). It has been there for 5 years and seems to be doing very well. The only problem is that it will not flower.

What is wrong?

Thanx

Hi!
Sterelitza as you may know is another name for Bird of Paradise ^.^ Now, the thing about these plants is its a lil while before they flower. By a lil while, i mean about 7 or 8 years lol. So ya, that's one thing. The other thing is that they like to be potbound in order to flower, and be in full sun to partial shade. So ya, that's what i've read. I've only seen one flower, and i'm currently unsuccessful in making one flower too >.< But i think that's cuz i keep mine indoors because New England sucks with weather like that lol.

Good luck!!

Yep, that's about right.

They take forever to flower and if the conditions are not just right they won't flower at all and all you get is a few leaves.

My advice....if you want Strelitzia flowers....move to Thailand!

smile
