I have recieved a mixed blessing. My grandmother gave me her very old jade
plant. The
plant was about 20 years old when she got it, and has had it for many years. The problem is it has been allowed to grow unchecked in a small pot. Most of the branches hang down below the bottom of the pot like a hanging basket and it is much bigger on one side. It has 4 main trunks but I have no idea how many
plants are in the pot. One trunk grows only over the side of the pot, not up. I want to shape it up and encourage more balanced growth, and I am pretty sure it needs to be in a much bigger pot, there is a small crack on the pot that I am assuming is from the root pressure. I am just afraid of doing something wrong, it would be such a shame to kill it. It is otherwise healthy, with beautiful "bark", and is putting out new growth. Should I trim it in stages and then repot it ? If so how should I proceed.
