Have you, or anyone you know, replaced the grass with thyme?

I have seen it in a catalog, but never in person...I wonder how tough it is? How would it stand up to wear and tear? Duh

When I landscaped, we did a few jobs where we made flagstone patios. We planted wooley thyme in all the 4-6 inch spaces between the stones.
The thyme was walked on regularly and bounced right back after each step. It held up really well in that situation but I'm not sure how it would do as a lawn that got a lot of traffic and use... Duh

Thanks, Bill!

Does wolley thyme bloom ever? Does it smell when you step on it? Does it die back in the winter months in zone 8? Duh

It has a pretty nice, subtle scent when you walk across it (or run your hand across it).
Its really nice and soft. (which would be nice to lay on, on a summer day if it was your lawn.)
It gets tiny pink flowers in the summer, but not a lot of them.
Its REALLY to propagate by division!

If the idea catches on you might put some lawn care companies outa business! smile
