Has anyone ever done it? If so, what is it really and what kinds of projects have you done it with?

I got some very pretty thinner wool yarn and on the package it says "perfect for felting". I have never heard of that before.

Yes, Triss - all 3 catbeds I have made were felted.
I'm also going to felt a little purse that I made to insert a small square mirror into.
I mostly use Patons Classic Merino Wool for my felting projects.
Which brand did you get?

It's pretty easy to do, but be prepared for quite a bit of shrinkage in the project you are making once the yarn is felted. That means that the fibers mesh together so it actually looks more like felt material after washing, than individual stitches.

So it is the washing that does it then?

I got Lion Brand Wool, a couple of 3 oz skeins in medium size. The color is cadet blue.

So if I am going to make a scarf of it, should I do it a bit wider and longer than I typically would? Will it even make a good scarf?

Ok thanks Wrennie. Sounds like it may not be work the effort. May just take this one back to the store and get something more fun.

Oh man, those purses are so cute! I have never made a purse before. Ok so I may yet fiddle with this stuff and see what happens.

I added another link up there.
Google felted projects or go on a yarn site like lion brand, they should give you an idea of how much it shrinks

Your friend does WONDERFUL work, Wrennie!

Is there a free pattern site for bowls?
I've seen a bunch online, but not a free pattern yet...

I'm pretty sure the one she showed me was to buy patterns for.
