Weezie...you know that Will Rogers is often credited with the saying "if you don't like the weather in Oklahoma just wait 15 minutes" or however many he said. I'll bet that was first said in ancient Babylon! clp

I guess I need to change my tagline to:

"The grass is always browner in the neighbors yard."

We are having more fires as well...although ours are not to the extent of Oklahoma/Texas they are rapidly getting worse. More structure fires this afternoon. It was so unseasonably warm here today we had the AC on....what season is this...someone will have to remind me because there is absolutely no way to tell!!!
Saying some prayers for you neighbors!

Jiffy, I thank you, as I'm sure Jimmy does. This is like nothing that's happened here before. At least in January. frown

Not as of right now no orders I know of news has been on since I got in from work. Will probably keep it on all night keeping my cell phone on in case hardwires go down. Triss not much fun watching all this makes one tend to worry but then I put it all in Gods hands he will take care of me. Doesn't help to worry about what you have no control over just try to get through it best you can.

I could smell the smoke in the house last night and on the way to work this morning.

Don't know where the fires are at present, but I will find out.

Texas Panhandle and New Mexico are having wild fires. Saw where they have them in Logan New Mexico that is where my mother is in a rest home. Just talked to my Niece there she said the fires are contained and they are in not danger. Texas and Oklahoma have lost a lot of small towns and untold acres of farm and ranch land. so far have not heard of any deaths since last week. Wind has changed from that south wind we have had for over a week to a north wind which is not much help. Will keep you posted as things develope.

Got your pm Jimmy, all's well at our house. I wish I could say the same for all the people who lost their homes last night. A cold front moved through last night and brought temps down and humidity up, a key factor to the success of the firemen. Lower danger today, but back to mid 70's tomorrrow and 40 mph wind.

It was fairly uneventful here yesterday as wind was less than predicted, but not so lucky today. They say there were 7 major fires in Oklahoma today, although the wind was nowhere near as strong as first predicted. Some empty buildings burned, I haven't seen enough news to know the details, but it sounds like we all got really lucky, as far as it goes.

We also have them going around here again wind has picked back up several hot spots flaring back up next calm day is supposed to be Friday high winds and warm weather low humidity otherwise. National gaurd helping as fire fighters from NC got here today. They showed one fire truck from a volunteer unit was a 1961 seats had no covering on them truck should not even be on the roads but I know from experience how hard it is for the volunteer's to scrape enough together for turnout gear let alone trucks. In Odessa the city and county refused to budget us so we did all out of donations. Everyone would say you volunteers out here begging again don't bother us but let their house catch fire where is the fire dept.? Excuse me but you said we are not needed and refused to put us in the budget. When anyone needed help the volunteers are there first almost every time.

Jimmy, I have a young friend who's the youngest chief ever in Oklahoma, 37 or something, got a call to help in the next county so he responded, got in deep trouble with the county because he crossed county lines. Yeah. He works in Cleveland county, one of the richest in all of Oklahoma, it's not like they fund his district anyway, all vounteer department where he is, and he's in deep doodoo because he answered a call for help! Go figure! nutz

I know Dave has never made since to me. I have watched Fire Depts. be close enough to see the fire and would not cross the county or City line they will just let homes or what have you burn and the sad part is their hands are tied.

It's a sad day when not crossing a county line is more important than helping people and saving homes angell

I live a corner of a county with 3 other counties just a few miles away. It is sad when you can't help your neighbor.

I bought one of those oscillating water sprinklers
last night and have started watering the grass around the house.

I figure if I can water 20 to 25 feet of the grass all the way around the house, maybe if we get a fire here it will bypass us and move on.
