Any idea where to find a pattern for one, or should I just "wing it"? My couch- between our smoking in past years(we have both quit now), kids, dogs, and the fact that it is about 6-8 years old - is in desperate need of being replaced, but we can't afford to replace it just now. I do have enough fabric to make a slip cover, but am not sure how to do it. I can sew pretty well, but have not done it in a few years. I did recover a couch once, but it was a futon shaped couch and I only had to do the back and cushions as the arms were wicker... HELP!!

Tonya, I do believe that both McCall's and Simplicity carry "patterns" for slipcovers. These are the two biggest pattern company's and the easiest to follow. You may not get a pattern per se, but rather directions and ideas for different styles (ie, boxy, formal, country). They are fairly easy to make, but my pet peeve with sewing is that it is usually cheaper to buy one made from WalMart and other discount stores than it is to buy fabric and make one. The advantage to sewing your own is that your choices of fabrics are so endless and it will be higher quality. Since you already have the fabric, it will definitely be better for you to make one. thumbup

Good luck with your project and keep us posted (hint, hint pictures!) on how you make out. clp

Check this out from McCall\'s .

Make sure you shop around the fabric stores and Walmart, they are constantly putting patterns on sale and you should be able to get it between $.99 and a couple dollars. Do Not pay full price for a pattern. frown

For simplicity patterns go to simplicity.com and do a pattern search using the keyword "slipcover".

When you do put it all together Tonya, give yourself a lil extra room so that it is not so tight that the stitches pull out when someone sits on it.

Well it is time for a new one then!! We have had our furniture for that long as well. And we got rid of so much when we came here and now only have a love seat and recliner, I am looking at a new recliner plus a loveseat and couch or a sectional. Have not found one of those I like at all. We need way more seating space in here.

Hi, there!

Just a thought...with the price of making a slipcover, you can go to ebay and look around. Surefit has a store there...I was able to get a slipcover for about 20 bucks. You may want to try that....it could be cheaper than you think!
