[Linked Image]My mom gave me ALL her knitting needles and crochet needles yesterday!
It was both a wonderful, yet bittersweet moment.

Wonderful, because she has soooooooo many different sizes, lengths, styles, etc - I don't know where to put them all - any suggestions as to how to keep them in some kind of order? Most pairs were rubberbanded together, but the rubberbands are so old and dried out now, that I have to actually scrape some of them off the needles.

The bittersweet, is because that is yet another chapter of her life that is over. eek Her hands shake so very badly now, she can't even think about picking up needles to do any work. She will be 80 this Oct. 14th, and her body is going downhill pretty rapidly now. Duh

I picked up a long wooden box at Dollar tree last week that is bigenough to hold at least one of every size crochet needle made. As for knitting needles I found some tall narrow cylindrical carved wooden boxes with a hinged lid at Old Time Pottery that might work to hold them.

How many needles are we talking about?

You could drill holes in a piece of wood to hang them in pairs, the wood could either be mounted on the wall of made into a table of sorts. The drill hole would have to be large enough for the needle to fit in but not larger than the head so they would not fall through.

Triss - nice idea, but we are talking MANY MANY MANY needles of assorted sizes.

When I get a chance, I'm going to pour them out on the floor and take a picture! wink
They looked like tons of pick-up sticks yesterday while I was transferring them into 1 bag! laugh
They are all so nice and colorful!

Hmmmm... that might actually make a nice photo to frame for the craft room wall - will have to use Don's better camera for that! thumbup

Can you take a picture of the crayon quilt, Rita?
Sounds very interesting!

I want to be able to use the needles, so I don't think I'd put it into a piece of art, but will definitely take some pictures and hopefully get a good one to blow up and frame.

I was actually trying to find it for you Lynne..
Keith Put it away because Mitch got into it and was coloring my walls with art...

I could describe it as a blanket with slots for the crayons.. Kinda like a pencil holder..trying to still find it... Perhaps it is time to clean out the atic :p

Do they still make drawer organizers you can 'bbuild your own?? You pick out different size 'baskets' that snap together? Like a silverware organizer? Then layer them in your lined basket???

Love the quilt idea. Even if they were up on the wall, you could still use them and the display would look fabulous! The drawer idea is good as well and more practical.
