I finally got my decorations up this afternoon - I've never waited this long, but it's a good thing, what with the wind we had the past 2 days. It's still pretty windy out there, but not nearly as bad. We even had a power failure yesterday afternoon.

These are 3 spider stuffed animals that I picked up at the $1 store last year - they have wire in the legs, so it's easy to wrap them around anything. The skeleton is an old flashlight that doesn't work, and can you believe a passionflower was open today? At the end of October here?!? On the right is a spinner that is going wild!

My Halloween doorknocker - when you push it she says in her witchiest voice

A few more...

Even the mailbox gets dressed up!
I cut 2 $1 plastic pumpkin pails in half and put one on each side of the mailbox.

This "flag" is a pillowcase that Amy got for free years ago for trick-or-treating while doing so at a local mall. She never used it, and I think it makes a good flag!

Shepherds's hooks are good even when the flower season is finished!

wow Lynne... those are all great ideas!!!

(around here, people just put a pumpkin at the door, or have a few cardboard cut-outs, or even the all too common "we do not celebrate Halloween" signs.... )
Again, it's great to see that people still care about Halloween!! thumbup

Thanks, Mark!

Are you kidding me? People actually put up those signs? And I thought people here were bad when they turn out all their lights, or leave the house so they don't have to do it.

This year is pretty mild for my decorating. I couldn't even find a real pumpkin for sale - I might hit one farm tomorrow to see if they have anything left, but they sell them by the pound here, and that can get expensive! I miss having a real one though - I usually cook up the pumpkin meat that I cut out, and serve it as a dinner side dish, and of course have to toast the seeds! MUST GET ONE NOW! eek Duh

I have some pumpkin left in my compost bin, if you'd like! laugh laugh wink

I give out candy and stuff, but I acutally don't think it's rude to turn out your lights or put a sign up. People have different reasons for not giving out candy--whether it be financial reasons(hey it's expensive), or that they just don't want to celebrate it because of any beliefs they have. It's not everyones cup of tea and I'm repectful of that. Just an opinion from the other side of things. wavey

I just bought boatloads of candy for tomorrow night! thumbup

And Lynne I love your decorations...they look really good! muggs

I hear you loz - I really do!
But in my neighborhood, I do believe that everyone can afford a few bags of candy. The one that bothers me the most, is the house caddy corner from us - they have a HUGE inground pool, own a landscaping business, have a house in Florida, and have 3 very expensive cars - so that's where I'm coming from! THEY are the ones on the street who turn off their lights every year. And they have tons of grandchildren too.

I could certainly understand if people cannot afford it, or if it was against their religious beliefs, but it's just not the case here.
Oh, well... their loss of enjoying kids enjoying the holiday, ya know?

I had to wait until the front lights came on (they're on a timer) before taking these last pictures of my decorations. The pictures didn't come out all that great, but you get the idea. These are 2 plastic masks that I've had forever, and the lights look like the eyes glowing through them.

I have 2 of each - some years I put 2 of the same out, some years 1 of each.

It happens up here too, people turn off their lights. Believe it or not, I asked the tech for no homework tomorrow an he said yes and added "when I was in high school the teachers who gav homework on halloween had their houses egged" I'm not really supposed to celebrate halloween cuz it has 'pagan' roots but everyone seems to celebrate it, even the other alter boys! We turn off our lights to go trick o treating and come back to give out all the candy again! we used to buy candy but no one eats it anymore so I was like, lets try this plan and it's worked so far!

wow kenny, thanks so nice of you.... and your teachers... to give you no homework tomorrow.... I'll probably get extra homework "just because"
yet their houses will still get egged.... but not by me! I'm not like that... angell Sure I'll be mad, but there's nothing I can do about it!

Those decorations look great, Lynne! I bet you have a ton of kids come trick-or-treating there. I miss having the little monsters visiting me since moving way out in the country...

sca Great decorations Lynne!
How spooky is it that I dreamt a big black and orange tarantula-like spider got in my house and I couldn't find him to shoo him out. And it looked just like your spiders!

When I went out for candy this morning, I first went to Christmas tree Shops, because I know they usually put their stuff on sale the "day of". By the time I got there, there wasn't any candy left, and all other Halloween merchandise was already 75% off.

I did manage to get this cute stuffed Frankenstein for only $1!
You can also see the mask over the light better in this light.

I also got the last 3 orange plastic swirly thingies at only 33 cents each! thumbup
