Usually about a year but the Red Sheild was 6 months as was the white "Adkins" my sister sent seeds for. She did not know the name but the people that she got it from called it Adkins which was also their name. Do not know it their is any connection or not. My Texas Stars all bloom the first year also. Seeded them in Feb. When was warm enough (we had winter that year) I placed them outside and were blooming by July bloomed until October. Got seeds that year from them. Still waiting for seed pod on the others.

Wonderful, Tina!
Thanks so much for brightening up a really dreary day here!

I just LOVE how large jade plants get there on the warm coast - and the flowers!!!
I have a decent sized one in my familyroom, but don't ever expect it to flower here...

Lynne, Enough light and it should bloom for you. I know they bloom indoors 'cause I had one when I lived in Rochester, NY and it bloomed winter, indoors.

Weezie, they're all camellias. I don't know which type. One of the looks like a rose, the other looks like a carnation. The white one is very fragile.

Joni, is all that blooming now?

I'm slow I know, but the jade on page one wow. I've never seen one that big before. It's like mine and likes to stay low to the ground. I hope I have enough light on it to get it to do that. That would be so cool. I have my first aloe bloom this year and if the jade bloomed too that would be fantastic. You give me hope.

Lynne, I'll post more tomorrow. I said I have thousands. They make a great groundcover. I have them on the hillside behind the house. Those 'babies' fall off of the ones hanging on my porch and start growing. I pull them like other weeds. Sometimes I transplant and sometimes I don't, depending on time.

Tina - I can't even imagine them growing on the hillside like weeds! It is so hot and dry here in the summer, that my one hanging pot needs to be watered at least once a day to survive!

It is hot and VERY dry here in summer and fall. I water almost everyday. But they keep moist better in the ground then in pots. I water something in my yard all the time, 24 hours a day. Even in the rain. My hillside spiders are in full sun all day until the sun dips behind the mountain I live on. Tough plants.

Weezie, we normally receive a few days of snow every winter but it doesn't last long. But we get LOTS of rain!

This winter there haven't even been very many nights that the temperature has dipped below freezing. Even the spider plant left out on a sheltered patio is still alive. Usually I grow pansies, ornamental kale and the like outdoors during the winter but didn't bother this year.

Close up the leaves always look a little unhealthy, but that's the look of them. I have two types, these are the narrow leaved ones and there are some wide leaved ones in a pot. I've seen pics of some with decorative leaves as well.

There is no "Siamese" type of sunflower...I suppose it was just a freak of nature. I did save seeds from it but the chances of that happening again is extremely rare! It sure was an attention grabber!

These can get 6-8 ft. But can be kept smaller in containers. Cold tolerant to 40* according to the book but has survived here dipping down to 25*. Leptospermum Crimson Glory. Those blooms are under an inch across.

I don't know why you can't see my pics, Jamie. Most can. I can't fix it for you because I'm technically challenged. I'm sorry.

That is the light on the flower. I'm working on my photography since I'm hanging it out here for everyone to critique. It has been the closest to a red camellia that I could find. Even so, it kind of fades to pink; not my favorite color. I don't know about seeds. they will grow from cuttings but my plant is a baby yet. I'm not ready to cut.

Tina,
You've got a good eye for those pots..
Really, I like how you've combined the bulbs
with the pansy's..

*my mom has those butterflies too, like the green one you have there, she found orange, yellow, blue, purple..they are so delicate and a nice accent.*

I've seen the flowering maple before.......
Is it a easy plant to grow???

My flowering maples are really neglected. They need more pinching back than I give them. The flowers form on the ends of the branches and I can hardly bear to pinch them off. Even though I KNOW that makes more branches and more flowers. They get leggy really fast and they tend to be short lived no matter what I do; 2-3 years. But they bloom all year for me. A couple of years ago they came out with dwarf ones that do pots really well.
And there are pansies, daffs, ranunculus, and butterfly delphinium in those pots for a long season. So you'll be seeing those same pots again. grinnnn

Tina,
I think it would be fun, if you posted those pictures by themselves in a seperate post..
and then each season, spring, summer, fall, etc..
post the pictures on the same thread...
That way we can follow the progress, and what you put in it..
I think that's fanastic idea...

What a wonderful amount of fun to watch it grow and change....

Thanks for Sharing...

In order:
1, There are dwarf abutilon (flowering maple) available, 1-2 ft. My originals got up to 15 ft if I didn't keep them in check.
2, They do grow and flower in pots.
3, I have seen seed available on Ebay, I have never grown them from seeds. I saved some seeds last year (the first year I ever noticed any). But in the 15 years or so that I have grown them, I have never had any volunteers come up on their own. That always tells me that the seed thing is probably tricky. I propagate through cuttings. They root easily given some time.
I think I answered all of the questions laugh
