Nice to see you Jiffy! Glad you found time to pop online tonight. All this time I assumed that something was wrong with Matthew medically, but seeing he moved out, I bet that was just as stressful for you. Will continue to lift him in prayer. And Scott as well that his appointment goes ok.
Glad you are still loving work, that is something good. You are very much missed around here!

triss, it is a medical thing, sort of. he is bipolar and since he turned 18, has been off his meds. he went on a manic tear before christmas, and has been going 2-4 days without any sleep, then sleeping for 10-12 hours, and starting again. when he gets this way, there isn't anything anyone can tell him. we basically threw him out after one episode with me, then another with his dad. the DAY after scott was in the hospital for his heart. he came back home with promises to be all that, but it only lasted 5 days, 3 of which he slept for 14+ hours at a stretch. i know he can't help himself when he is off his meds, but i can't put them down his throat if he isn't willing. and he would rather be homeless than take them. all i can think about is the man on the plane who was off his meds... matthew is 6'2" and 275 lbs... ask cindy how big he is. he is a big boy, and if he is "in your way" or acting aggressive at all, well, most folks would shot first and ask questions later. i know i would. and he's my boy. so, yes, it is medical, sort of.

Oh Jiffy, I know EXACTLY what you are going through cuz Dan is also bi-polar and when his meds are off, it is a nightmare. We are finally getting them regulated but since moving here it has been the worst it ever has been.
I hope that he can come to grips with his condition and get back on his meds. It will only be better for him in the long run, not that I am telling you something you do not already know.
I am so sorry you are going through this. It is so hard to watch one you love deal with everything that goes along with being bi-polar.

Jiffy, Triss and all who deal with bi-polar. Sometimes it's easy to dismiss it as a mental problem because that's what it's always been considered. It isn't though - it is a legitimate physical chemical imbalance in the brain which makes it a medical problem, like diabetes or any other medical problem. The worst part is that when they are feeling good (manic) they are on top of the world and think they don't need their meds anymore. Sadly, there isn't anything that can be done about it, especially when they are bigger than you are. They are more endearing and illicit more sympathy when they are depressed - probably because most of the rest of us have experienced something similar whereas we mostly don't ever think we rule the world.
I'm so sorry that you are having to endure this and I will be praying for you. I guess the only positive is there is always a crash after that high and his meds will be regulated again. Whoever thinks up a better system than this will be eligible for sainthood.

Depression isn't any fun either Kareena - are you trying something else or just weaning off your medication?

Kareena you need to be careful about just stopping the medication - there can be complications (depending on the dose) if you don't wean properly. Losing insurance stinks - it's happened here several times in the last few years - maybe your doctor can give you enough samples to wean off properly by slowly reducing the dose. It's not a good idea to just stop taking it.

I was at 100mg. I broke those in half (50mg) then broke the half in half (25mg), then stopped taking it altogether.

Kareena, talk to your dr about samples... mrsmessy, you are so right about the crash, that is what we are waiting for right now, but know from experience that it can take months to fully happen. until then but thank you all for the prayers and good thoughts... and thanks to all those who prayed in such a hurry yesterday for his emergency surgery. we'll make it, eventually!

Bev, Believe me I totally understand that it is a medical not a mental issue. I did not completely understand that before seeing how meds affect Dan, I know that it is completely chemical.
The thing with us is that manic days really upset Dan more than down days do. I think it is cuz he knows the mania is short lived and can be so exhausting. There are also times he is so manic that he simply cannot funtion and put any of that energy to work. That is what we have been going through the last couple of days. Fortunately it is getting better.
Jiffy, It is good to see you. I hope the surgery went ok for Matthew. Is he still in the hospital?

still praying for all of you who have have to deal with the repercussions of this terrible affliction.
Kareena that is exactly what the dr would have done so you have prevented a reaction but is it not possible to try a less expensive anti-depressant?
