I owe you guys the biggest THANKS there is! So many members here with "pond knowledge" saved my fishies, and I am so grateful! I don't know what I would have done without your help. njoynit sent me a Budweiser box FULL of plants, and look at them now! I didn't know if they went IN the water or not, and was too embarrassed to ask, so I planted them on the edges of the pond where it stays wet all the time. I must have done good, because as you can see, the plants are beautiful! Gardencrazy sent me a huge assortment of water plants, and they are doing awesome, too. My water started clearing up immediately when I put the plants in the water...it was just like magic!

I have a picture of mine that has just started blooming but it's still in the camera and I shot it in the evening so I don't think it is going to be anygood. Hummmmmmm, here is one sort of like Cindy's I think. Mine are a much more common type I think. http://www.floridata.com/wallpaper/jpg/canna_tropicana_800.jpg

New ponds take a while to find balance. If your pond is not new, then the problem could be sunlight. Sunlight + shallow water = algae. More plants that float on the surface or trees planted to shade the pond would be your best bet. If you already have adequate shading, I will list some NATURAL products that may help to clear your pond water. microbe-lift barley straw

Thank you we are going to try more floating flowers and maybe some straw. The pond is now 2 years old and it is 2ft deep and 8 feet wide and 12 feet long. So I am sure it needs more shade in it! We are considering digging it deeper. I did the original digging and Wished I hadnt wore out so fast and that I had done more research before I started. Trial and error will have to suffice for now though. And of course all the advice from the experts here!

francine,
I want a dozen at least. They are sooooo pretty I agree. The ones I have are just green or just red and one is split half green and half red which I thought was rather strange and they are all making babies but they are nothing compared to that one. That one wouldn't even have to bloom and it is gorgeous.

I wish I could take the credit. I bought them at walmart. Got 6 for 5.00 and that's the way they came. One was completely burgandy and one was half & half the rest are green. I have no idea if the division would be the same as the parent plant or just one color or the other. When it blooms I will definitely snap a picture and post it. They are a tuber(?) if it were a seed I would definitely send you some. But it gets kind of costly to send packages. And I don't know what customs would require to get it across the border. You know you can always ask with me Fancine and probably everyone else on the forum. There are a bunch of special people here.

I haven't really researched cannas so I don't know to much about them. I guess I better huh? Washing floors? Want to come down and do mine too? Just kidding, I like the idea of just adding wildflower seeds to my dirty one and leting the flowers grow lol. Well I guess I should do some cleaning too.

Cindy - those flowers are gorgeous, and the plants all look so green and healthy! Now I'm even more frustrated with not being able to keep any plants green and strong in my bathtub pond. :p
