Hi all ~ wavey
Thought you might enjoy this poem I wrote recently. Let me know what you think.
Merme

Sometimes The Weather

Oh, there is always a drawback to any season
if you think about it, 'tis quite true,
But mostly, ah, mostly
I love the weather whether or not I actually do.

I'm a four-seasons girl, to tell it well
no bland one season region
satisfies this chock-a-block heart running pell-mell
for crisp June light, autumn leaves and hurricane flies
snowstorms and surprise pale spring skies.
New mown lawns and gritty beaches,
icicles on parade along tall roof peaks
sunflowers heavy in August heat
the September smell of fat ripe apples
the burnt orange on October's vine
the drudgery of February, so cold, a-drear....
there's something to like any time of year.

And oh, I want it all -- all!
Trash barrel lids whirling down the street
mud splashed up on passing cars
the chill squish it makes under feet
the grunt of shoveling and squeal of slippy sliding,
hearing the furnace kick on at night
rattling old radiator pipes,
the scent of hot pavement after a light rain
the soothing clunk of windshield wipers
with tell-tale streaks
and who can resist bonfires under the stars
cloudless summer nights and gentle guitars?
and oh, the fun of hearing everyone complain
of things that can't be changed!
and oh, I want to know this next season again.

Oh, the all of it!
There must be a time for filmy shawls on chilly evenings
bathing suits, sun shades and mosquito netting
highheels, golashes and pink fur boots
chunky slippers against icy floors
and oh, mittens and muffs and scarves galore
there must be time for short skirts and the barest of tops
floral cotton garden hats, straw beach bonnets. and wooly caps
snowpants and parkas and a rain poncho too
lace gloves, rice paper fans, a trusty umbrella made for two.
There must be time for flannel shirts while raking leaves
a lawn blanket for listening to the sound of violins in the trees
the feel of fog against my skin and a fluffy towel to dry off in.
a kiss of moonlight in my loved one's eyes
time enough for making paradise ....
.
I want reasons -- reasons to embellish the seasons
again and again and again
something to decorate the turning calendar pages
something whole and well to show the passing days
something warm and human,
oh! a whole passel of celebrations --
that sensual feast to nourish the silky secrets
thriving in my soul
all the year through and through -- .
but mostly, ah God, mostly,
I love the weather whether or not I actually do.

I want it all, too, Merme! Just beautiful. Loved it.
