I have been looking at all the names that we have chosen on the forum and I have gotten curious. Just how did we all come up with our "handles"? I chose "Dixie Angel" because I live in the south and I am a(n) (Fallen) angel. Seriously...I named my furbaby "Lil Lady Dixie Angel". I just sort of took her name as my own for forum identification. What about you all?

"Merme" is the childhood name my family and closest friends have always used for me. I accidently gave it to myself at age 2.
People would ask "What is your name?" and I'd point to myself and say "Mary, Me!" but I said it so quickly (we all speak too fast!) it sounded like "Mare me."

My husband gave me my name when we were first married. "Ranee" means Queen in some African language ( I have long forgotten which one). And my first name is Renee'. Thus my name is Queen Renee' . I love my name so much I use it for EVERYTHING!

Well, the first part is me, myself, and I... Kiki is my internet/computer co-navigator; he sits here with me either on my lap or by the monitor, and tries to bat the cursor on the screen. He's also been known to attempt typing on many an occasion......

Well I started as Nana8 - way back in 99 or so- then my fertile children kept giving me more grands - so now I am up to 15 as of tomorrow... so If I knew how to change it or modify it here I would --- LOL! DIL went to hospital today and they will deliver the twins at 7 am--- they are very early and going to be very little but Dr's are saying all is well so I am trying really hard to believe that and not worry.... we are going to have 3 babies withen 6 weeks of each other...tired already!

My Daddy called me giggiburr when I was a little kid- sort of a twisted version of my name- Ginger. First it was Gingiburr, then it changed to giggiburr, and my initials are GG, so it became geegeeburr. BTW, I have online friends who've known me for like 6 years now who still call me Geegee. Merme- In my head, I've been pronouncing your name wrong-- I thought it was "Merm" like mermaid.

I wish Barley would post on this thread because I do NOT understand that screen name at all and keep wondering if it is a plant? And oh Geegee, you were close. Sometimes my family does shorten Merme into a one-syllable name as you suggested, but they keep the "a" sound, so it is "Maremmm" rather than "Mare-me". Good to see you back, my friend! Merme

this is actually the second go around for this thread...and in the first one, barley explained her name. I don’t remember if the first go around was pre- or post- crash though, so I don’t know if it would be somewhere in the archives but, I know, and I know why Weezie is Weezie too, but I’ll let her tell you!

I'm sorry if this topic seems redundant. All I know is it was pre- me! I think!!! I am finding it interesting to see the different replies. I would have never guessed how to say Merme's name if she had not posted. I've been calling her something else in my head. Please dig the topic up if it is in the archives. I would like to know (yes, I'm nosy and curiousity killed the cat) how Weezie got her name. I have looked and cannot find it. Dianna

I admit I have the remarkably bad habit of reading posts without my glasses. This sometimes makes for interesting interpretations of finer print items. For the longest time I thought Barley's name was Barley-CLOWN. Then I put my glasses on! But on another forum I emailed regularly with a woman whose screen name I THOUGHT was TIDEAN, which I read as "Tidy Ann". Again, no glasses. Until finally she asked me why I always called her Tidy Ann? It was actually TLDEAN....her initials and last name strung together! Somehow "Tracy" didn't suit her as well as my Annie had!!! Who said KISS?! Merme

I know! I know, I love Miss Bess's name too! You are right, it is so regal and wholesome in it's simplicity. It conjurs up all kinds of great imagery in my head.
I must say, Geegeeburr, your name is adorable now that you've told us it's history. You must have been a sweet child for your dad to invent the original version!

NOW, I have to tell you this.. when I signed up on here, almost a year ago, I couldn't think of a good name. Every message board I post on is usually some part of my name, and maybe my birthyear (1970). So, I was trying to be "original". I came up with a name, but ended up not liking it that much.. it was kinda lame, and too long. Then, in signing up, it asked me what I want my screen name to show as.. so instead of my "signup name", my screen name, is just simply, my name. Or, nickname anyway. The screenname I chose? cluelessinwestva  Maybe I could fit a few more of those graemlins if I tried..lol. Meg

I feel like I'm coming into this thread a little too late! But, I will tell you about my name. I use "hisgal" for alot of things that I do online. It reminds me of Stephen...because, well, I'm simply his girl. We used to tease back and forth while we were dating and one day he screwed his words up and called me his "gal"...I remember that fondly and that's why I use that name. The 2 on the end of it is my favorite number. 1 is lonely and 3 is a crowd.....2 is just perfect.

Weezie, I had to chuckle when I saw your post because early this morning when I read the previous post, I thought "Not Weezie's!" It's ok, my friend, you can keep your secret but tell me, is it ok if we spend time trying to guess?! My first guess is that you are a tiny person, which explains the "Wee" part. And your last name is something unpronouncable that begins with ZIE such as "Ziefersnitchelbeginsteinovich", so you shorten it to Zie for all of us who don't speak that language! So how'd I do? Merme

Ya know, we could probably guess until we're blue in the face and then MAYBE we'd get it....but then she probably wouldn't tell us if we got it right, so we wouldn't know it and would just keep guessing and guessing and guessing forever and ever ***takes a deep breath*** and ever and then we'd never know her secret.... ok...sorry...WAY too much caffeine tonight!!! So, I used to be called Weezie. Its because my middle name is Louise and they just thought it was funny to call me that.

Okay, here's a crazy one for you! Although it is kind of along the same line as Jenn's....... My husband and I send/exchange cards to each other..a lot. We frequantly include a passage of scripture from the Song of Solomon because we just love the way they so romanticly describe their love for each other. Chapter 5 verse 10 she describes her lover as white and "ruddy". My husbands name is Rufus..(which we don't particularly care for) so one day I looked up the meaning of his name and one of the sir names for Rufus is Rudy (like judy with an "R") so, that is what I call him, but spell it like it is in the scripture with 2 r's....the # 4 is just so he knows that everything I do is "4" him. Crazy I know! He actually calls me his "Shulamite" woman, because we met at church and the sermon the night we met was about the custom of the groom going to prepare a home for his Shulamite woman. My grandkids all call me "Mammers"...a name given to me by my youngest son. When he played football..I fed the entire team on many occassions and I don't know how they came up with that one...but that is what they football team called me and even at their graduation a lot of the boys had no clue what my real name was! Peanut,(Taylor) our adopted grand baby came by his nick name because he had to have some major surgery at six weeks...and when he came out of surgery his little body was completely shaped different...he looked like a little "Peanut"...now when someone calles him Taylor....he just looks at them crazy!

Thanks to Merme (I always called her Mermie in my head) for alerting me to this thread. It's neat to see all the names explained. It's good to see Geegee here, too.
My name is Elisabeth. As a kid I called myself Beth until seventh grade, when there were 5 Beths in my homeroom. It was then I altered it to Bess, after a wonderfully eccentric pal referred to me as "Young Bess" (after a book about Queen Elizabeth I's childhood). I liked the -ss at the end, which causes people to think twice about how I spell my full name. (I was named after opera diva Elisabeth Schwartzkopf! Imagine my mom's chagrin when I sang in a rock band in the 80's.)
AINNY-way, I hooked back up with a long-lost friend who had moved to St. Simon's Island, Georgia and in describing the piedmont area where I live, jokingly referred to myself as "Little Bessie of the Piedmont". For some reason I thought of that when I was asked for a screen name, here.
I had no idea it would come off so well.

I don't think my screen name is as interesting as some of yours, but maybe I can make it a bit more interesting with a puzzle. I'm a big Sci-fi fan and have a license plate that reflects that. Also, when the first of the Star Wars special editions came out, I had one of those refill cups from the convenience store with a picture of Obi-wan Kenobi on it. Somebody at work started calling me Obi-wan and I took it as my screen name.
Now for the puzzle. It should be easy, as I've probably given too many hints.
This is my license plate: 4SBWTU

i chose phoenix (well i have been using it for a LONG time) because a phoenix "rises" from the ashes(which trough out life i have had to do many times) and according to dumbledor(sp?) from harry potter a phoenix can carry a "great weight/many burdens and their tears have healing powers. so in my twisted mind i fancy myself after a phoenix i also believe i was egyptian in a past life (shirley mclain told me that )so phoenix seemd to fit me i guess

Hi Obywan ~ I admit I didn't get your puzzle until I read 4Ruddy's reply. I couldn't get past that T....never would have thought WT stood for "With"! But then agan, I just put my glasses on and found out your screen name is OBYwan. I've always thought it was SKYwan. That's what I get for peering at the posts without my peepers in place! And dishmanlady, correct your family for me, won't you? A Lady doesn't have "dish rags", a Lady has "dish CLOTHS" or, in your case they would be called dishmanlady cloths. Howz that? Merme

**Merme, That's what I get for peering at the posts without my peepers in place! Do you see the word "VIEW" at the top of your page, ***mine's thru Mircosoft header*** click on that word, and the menu bar pops down, It'll say "TEXT SIZE", another menu bar will pop down, and say the words, Largest, Large, Medium, Smaller, Smallest... Click on the word LARGEST for your self, and the letters should get pretty big for you... Weezie

Oh Phoenix, be glad you DON'T know! A few of us do know, but we've all been sworn to secrecy on pains of death! Well, maybe not actual death, but I think if I told, that tiny woman from NY would come kick my Maine butt from here to Topeka! She would, too. And I'd be a-weeping and a-wailing the whole way.... So let's try to figure out JV's instead....I guessed "a new kind of tequila" which sounded good to me and I also guessed "Junior Varsity". Both guesses were bombs, apparently. You have any likely ideas? Merme

Let's see, I like your ideas for the J....so, what if he was a Marine and goes by Jarhead? what if the V is for Victory? He's PATRIOTIC! But his signature mentions keeping it organic....so, how about Jovial Ventures? If he's a musician, it could be Jammin' Videos or Jumpin Vibrations! By the way, you COULD send Weezie and PM and plead with her to tell you privately what her screen name means, but then you'd be sworn to take the oath of silence on pain of death as well.... Merme

Okay, I spent the last 15 mins. going through and reading all the posts in here....good stuff! Loz is what everyone calls me....my hubby, my friends, my nephews and nieces.....That's Aunt Loz to them!!! :p My hubby will be across the other side of the store and be yelling LOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZZ!!! People probably think, man she has an ugly name..... When I was a little girl I guess I snored kind of cute--because they started calling me Laura the Snorer.....somehow it became Loz the Schnoz--I think because they figured I'd get the big family nose..... I don't know exactly where Loz came from.... I guess becaue it rhymed with schoz....My dad gave us all cutsey type names.....My brother was Paulrus the Walrus, and my sis Allison was Allibags the Scallywags....I don't know how these happened either to be honest.....My dad was, and still is a pretty silly fun loving man....very imaginative....he'd put on elaborate puppet shows for us at night, and sing and dance his way out of our bedrooms...he'd tell us stories that he made up himself, that he now tells to his grandkids...He'd take us for mystery trips, and to the park, and for walks....So the names weren't meant in any way to be mean or anything....just fun and silly.....but WOW how mine stuck.....I hated it as a teenager, but embrace it now. My niece used to call me Woz before she could say her L's....and it was so cute......

Cool name, Loz! Thanks for telling us!! Phoenix, earlier you asked which part of ME are we in? We are in the southern part, right smack dab on the coast....our apt is four blocks uphill from the beach. Having traveled nearly all the world, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else now, but there's no bias in that opinion! Merme

J is for Jimmy the V which is first letter of my middle name is still not going to be revealed . I only know three people that had this name. One was an old man back home in New Mexico the other is my oldest son just to get even. He still will not speak to me for this. :p Jimmy V

Vitlar? Varlit?
They both sound organic to me!
Vartil? Virtal?
Ohhhh, I feel as though I've been sent on a wide track that could lead just about anyplace!
How about:
Vatlir? Vitlar?
Oh I know, I know....it doesn't happen to have a U in it as well, does it?
Then you could be JIMMY VIRTUAL!
So how am I doing? Merme

It can't be Valentine because in one of the clues he gave us, he said it was shorter than two of TK's guesses that had an R in them.
But hey, I LIKE Valentine!

I had also thought of Virgil but abandoned it when he said none of the letters in "Vern" was in his name. Then when he said it DID have an R, I forgot about the idea.
But you are right, G-mom: Virgil is a good choice!
