Thanks to Merme (I always called her Mermie in my head) for alerting me to this thread. It's neat to see all the names explained. It's good to see Geegee here, too.
My name is Elisabeth. As a kid I called myself Beth until seventh grade, when there were 5 Beths in my homeroom. It was then I altered it to Bess, after a wonderfully eccentric pal referred to me as "Young Bess" (after a book about Queen Elizabeth I's childhood). I liked the -ss at the end, which causes people to think twice about how I spell my full name. (I was named after opera diva Elisabeth Schwartzkopf! Imagine my mom's chagrin when I sang in a rock band in the 80's.)
AINNY-way, I hooked back up with a long-lost friend who had moved to St. Simon's Island, Georgia and in describing the piedmont area where I live, jokingly referred to myself as "Little Bessie of the Piedmont". For some reason I thought of that when I was asked for a screen name, here.
I had no idea it would come off so well.

I don't think my screen name is as interesting as some of yours, but maybe I can make it a bit more interesting with a puzzle. I'm a big Sci-fi fan and have a license plate that reflects that. Also, when the first of the Star Wars special editions came out, I had one of those refill cups from the convenience store with a picture of Obi-wan Kenobi on it. Somebody at work started calling me Obi-wan and I took it as my screen name.
Now for the puzzle. It should be easy, as I've probably given too many hints.
This is my license plate: 4SBWTU

i chose phoenix (well i have been using it for a LONG time) because a phoenix "rises" from the ashes(which trough out life i have had to do many times) and according to dumbledor(sp?) from harry potter a phoenix can carry a "great weight/many burdens and their tears have healing powers. so in my twisted mind i fancy myself after a phoenix i also believe i was egyptian in a past life (shirley mclain told me that )so phoenix seemd to fit me i guess

Hi Obywan ~ I admit I didn't get your puzzle until I read 4Ruddy's reply. I couldn't get past that T....never would have thought WT stood for "With"! But then agan, I just put my glasses on and found out your screen name is OBYwan. I've always thought it was SKYwan. That's what I get for peering at the posts without my peepers in place! And dishmanlady, correct your family for me, won't you? A Lady doesn't have "dish rags", a Lady has "dish CLOTHS" or, in your case they would be called dishmanlady cloths. Howz that? Merme

**Merme, That's what I get for peering at the posts without my peepers in place! Do you see the word "VIEW" at the top of your page, ***mine's thru Mircosoft header*** click on that word, and the menu bar pops down, It'll say "TEXT SIZE", another menu bar will pop down, and say the words, Largest, Large, Medium, Smaller, Smallest... Click on the word LARGEST for your self, and the letters should get pretty big for you... Weezie

Oh Phoenix, be glad you DON'T know! A few of us do know, but we've all been sworn to secrecy on pains of death! Well, maybe not actual death, but I think if I told, that tiny woman from NY would come kick my Maine butt from here to Topeka! She would, too. And I'd be a-weeping and a-wailing the whole way.... So let's try to figure out JV's instead....I guessed "a new kind of tequila" which sounded good to me and I also guessed "Junior Varsity". Both guesses were bombs, apparently. You have any likely ideas? Merme

Let's see, I like your ideas for the J....so, what if he was a Marine and goes by Jarhead? what if the V is for Victory? He's PATRIOTIC! But his signature mentions keeping it organic....so, how about Jovial Ventures? If he's a musician, it could be Jammin' Videos or Jumpin Vibrations! By the way, you COULD send Weezie and PM and plead with her to tell you privately what her screen name means, but then you'd be sworn to take the oath of silence on pain of death as well.... Merme

Okay, I spent the last 15 mins. going through and reading all the posts in here....good stuff! Loz is what everyone calls me....my hubby, my friends, my nephews and nieces.....That's Aunt Loz to them!!! :p My hubby will be across the other side of the store and be yelling LOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZZZ!!! People probably think, man she has an ugly name..... When I was a little girl I guess I snored kind of cute--because they started calling me Laura the Snorer.....somehow it became Loz the Schnoz--I think because they figured I'd get the big family nose..... I don't know exactly where Loz came from.... I guess becaue it rhymed with schoz....My dad gave us all cutsey type names.....My brother was Paulrus the Walrus, and my sis Allison was Allibags the Scallywags....I don't know how these happened either to be honest.....My dad was, and still is a pretty silly fun loving man....very imaginative....he'd put on elaborate puppet shows for us at night, and sing and dance his way out of our bedrooms...he'd tell us stories that he made up himself, that he now tells to his grandkids...He'd take us for mystery trips, and to the park, and for walks....So the names weren't meant in any way to be mean or anything....just fun and silly.....but WOW how mine stuck.....I hated it as a teenager, but embrace it now. My niece used to call me Woz before she could say her L's....and it was so cute......

Cool name, Loz! Thanks for telling us!! Phoenix, earlier you asked which part of ME are we in? We are in the southern part, right smack dab on the coast....our apt is four blocks uphill from the beach. Having traveled nearly all the world, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else now, but there's no bias in that opinion! Merme
