What a coincidence - a couple of days ago I walked around a corner on the pathway in my garden and almost stepped on a little brown mound.
At first I thought it was a "calling card" left by a critter, but it moved. It was a baby bird, quivering and trying to flap it's stubby little wings. I backed up and crouched down to see what it would do, and a moment later Mama Cardinal swooped down and flew past the baby and up into a Leyland cypress
tree.
Little baby chirped and hopped toward the cypress, then fluttered it's little winglets until it got airborne and flew unsteadily up into the cypress right where Mama had gone.
