I am glad I found this forum! I am looking forward to reading and sharing. I have more than 40 rose bushes in my rose garden and roses are a challenge in SW Florida but I am agressive with them and my flourish! Folks come to me for advice! I also have sunflowers, gardenias, zinnias, and many many other types of flowers in gardens around my house. I am a public school teacher, with two part time jobs and serve as treasurer for our local Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter. I am a grandfather. My partner, Tim and I make our home in Fort Myers. He takes care of the inside of the house.. everything outside is MINE!

Hi Vince! Welcome to the forum! WOW 40 rose bushes? In Florida no less? Wow..I'm impressed. I was just saying to my partner today that it's too humid HERE for roses (S. Il)- keep battling black spot -- I can't imagine having them in florida! This is a great forum - I've learned so much, and have made some good friends here. Glad you found us! I look forward to seeing lots of pictures of your fo-fo-fo-fourty roses! laugh

Hi, Vince! wavey

I love roses, too!
I had almost 200 at the farm I used to live at. I was on the Jackson and Perkins rose Test Panel for years, and even got to name one. It was a big job taking care of them...especially when the Japanese Beetles ganged up on me. :p

Welcome to the forum!

Oops,I was supposed to introduce myself and give some personal info. After ten years in the same ground-floor apt, I'm finally planting and growing stuff. I didn't select any plant species for the purpose of attracting butterflies, but that's the way it's worked out. They really dig my wild baby's breath and purple larkspur. Are those on the list of butterfly attractors?

My next door neighbor has questions about her morning glories, and it's primarily to help her that I've joined this forum. There's a category on vines -- should I look there?

Oh yeah, I need to change my title, "gardener," if that's possible. I've got three modest flower beds, a far cry from gardens.

Thanks, Loz. I think I'll try the plants, pests and problems area.

SW Florida is truly a paradise. I have been living in Bradenton for 2.5 years and am learning about what to plant where by trial and error. I have been on Florida gardening websites. I planted two gardenia plants the first year we were here and I think the sun burned them and, subsequently, they died. Any advice?

I was a sub teacher in Cleveland, Ohio because I was traveling from New Mexico to Oh. It was a nightmare job. I give you a lot of credit, although being a full-time teacher is an easier task. It is a task nontheless. I was also tutoring at the detention center in Cleve and I loved it.

Thank you.
