ok, after doing some research, i think it is called small's bog button and you can find pictures and information at the plant atlas of Florida
Liz, I think the latin name for the one i was looking for is Lachnocaulon minus and it is a relative of the one you found.

karen, i had to edit the post because the link wouldn't work... so... click on the url link and you can get to see all kinds of them... also, i found a site where they were referred to as "bog bachelor buttons"! so my memory isn't that faulty after all!! Thanks Liz for finding it for me!

excellent! bog button was my next guess (lachnocaulon anceps) or another close relative is (eriocaulon septangulare) pipewort all members of thr pipewort family (eriocaulaceae) and the button part would really fit into you puzzle!
