All right, so I'm feelin ALOT sappy!!! I know I posted something about Dayne on his birthday...but Friday is graduation...and Dayne was Senior Captian of the football team his senior year...they went to state that year (first time in about 20 years I think) The group of boys that were seniors that year had played ball together since they were in junior high...they had never lost a game. The entire football team was Honorary Pall Bearers at Dayne's funeral...he was burried in his High school jersey and I kept the Arkansas jersey he wore in Australia in the Down Under Bowl after graduation. All of the seniors burried their jersey's with Dayne...it was an unbelievable moment. I wish I had space to tell you all they did to honor Dayne...but, I said all of that to say...Friday I will be giving out the 5th Dayne Bell Memorial Scholarship. It goes to an outstanding lineman, for the college of his choice, to be used for books, housing or what ever the need is. It is for $500.00. Although that isn't a lot of money..I am so PROUD and so very thankful that we are able to do this. It keeps Dayne's school spirit alive...and his memory current. We have struggled at times to get the scholarship going and keeping it funded. I will have to do another fund raiser pretty soon. So, today as I prepare to give this out...I am sappy (to put it mildly)and thankful to have the opportunity to do it!

Oh Vanessa, how terrific. We started a soccer scholership in my son's name after his death. It is actually to pay the fees for kids to play in the local non-school spring soccer leagues. Thanks to a soccer club, it is now fully funded.

It's a wonderful thing you ladies have done to honor your sons.

Last month, our kids' school had an auction that I went to. They were raising money for scholorships as well, for several students that have passed on in the past couple of years. I ended up with a pretty painted wooden jewelry box for $35. I wanted one of the gardening baskets, or my daughter's class made a "chocolate lover's dream" basket.. but that went for over $200 and I didn't have it. The gardening baskets I think went for over $100. I had $50. :p

I think they must have raised a lot of money that night, several items went for over $100, and they had about 50 items to auction.

4Ruddy: I don't know you well but I'm sorry you're feeling a bit down right now. You are doing a great thing supplying a scholarship for people. You may think $500 isn't very much but it is like receiving a million to those that don't have it.

Hang in there. Please give yourself a hug today.
