Well, it's the time of year to lie to ourselves and find out just how wretched our self-control really is. So has anyone got a list yet?

Anyone else besides me GOING ON A DIET AGAIN AND THIS TIME I REALLY MEAN IT?

Oh Cricket, I just love that George Carlin quote.

Jenn, a journal is a great idea. I used to keep one all the time and it really helped me keep my thoughts together. Maybe I'll do that, too. I like to write poetry and draw in them as well. crit

I am with geegeeburr! This past year put 20 pounds on me because of some medicine I had to take. Now I will be working to get the weight down so that I can be a slimmer bride. I don't want to have to waddle down (or should I say, up?) the aisle. grinnnn

I finally thought of a good New Year's Resolution for myself today when I was throwing yet another bag of aluminum cans in the back of my truck...

I have a bad habit of driving around for a month or two with bags of stuff to drop off at the recycling dumpsters that are all over town.

So, from now on I will not drive around looking like Sanford and Son...I will pull in and spend 2 whole minutes (or less) throwing my bags in the dumpsters.

You gotta be kidding! What kind of a person would steal someone else's recycling?? Now, out here, we have 3 different trash cans provided by the city, one for trash, one for garden waste, and one for recycling, and the homeless go through the recycle cans and get cans and bottles, but I don't mind that, because the people they're taking them from have already trashed them, and the homeless people need that money. But if you're specifically carrying around your recycling, then you obviously have plans for that money. They might as well just steal people's wallets. <img border="0" alt="[tongue]" title="" src="graemlins/tongue.gif" />

Dianna- When's your wedding? Are you going on a specific diet? A few years ago, I lost 15 pounds, then couldn't lose anymore for like 2 years. Joined Weight Watchers, and lost another 35 in about 8 months. But when I got pregnant, i gained 70, and still have about 60 of it. So that's my res-- to lose at least 50 of the 60 pounds. (But hopefully all 60.) This time, I'm going to try a diet based on Lindora. I was hoping to find a few other dieters on here do be diet buddies with, and post updates and such, because I've found that other people knowing about my failures is a great motivator. shocked

Geegee...I don't get any money for my cans, anyway...
I take them to the place to donate them, so I WANT people to steal them so I don't have to go to the trouble of unloading them. Works like a charm! I make sure they are always in see-thru bags, so people will take them! laugh thumbup

I leave my doors unlocked here. Last year my car was "broken" into but the only things stolen were gas receipts and my gas cap key. nutz The thieves rifled through tapes but I guess had different music tastes. Reckon they thought the car was too MESSY to bother with the rest. laugh

Hey Geegee,

I was thinking the same thing.....about maybe having diet buddies? I'm totally for it! I will be a dietere! laugh My goal is 40-50 pounds, which will put me at my "ideal weight" for my height. When I was looking for my ticker, the place that I use also has a weight loss ticker. It can count down the amount of weight you want to lose, or if your brave, it will count down through your actual weight! sca I was going to do that ticker instead of the one that I'm doing, but this one is important to me. What about two tickers down there instead of my photobucket link??? Weezie, Jiffy, Bill?? Would that be ok???

Yay! I'll diet with you, Jenn! I'll even be brave enough to post my actual weight, though I'm not sure if I'm technologically advanced enough to make a ticker.

I used to weigh 185 (I'm 5'7"), then got down to 169 on my own, then got down to 134 with Weight Watchers (which I highly recommend to anyone who has the 10 bucks a week), but by the time we had the baby, I was at 204! YIKES!!! Now, I'm pretty sure I'm unfortunately somewhere in the 190s. I may never see 134 again, but I want back into my size 8 jeans! New Years day, I'll weigh in and post my weight, and we can post tips, or updates on how much we've lost, or just vent about how much we wanted to eat those cookies-cake-spaghetti-or whatever our particular stumbling block is. (mine is definitely carbs.)

Jim and I are getting married on May 14. We have been together for 3 and 1/2 years, so I guess it is time. I have been divorced for 24 years so this is the biggest step for me. I am terrified!

We are planning on having a western wedding complete with "hitching post" on our back deck. I am planning on wearing the size I was when we first met, (size 8-10) so I have to do some dieting to get into the dress I want. My problem will be carbs, too! I love my beans, rice, and taters! shocked

Are you gonna have horses?

If I ever get married again it will be an outside wedding. I've always thought that would be so nice. My sister got married under a big weeping willow tree, and it was so pretty.

Yay!!! Geegee, if you are brave enough to post your weight, so am I. I weigh the same as you then...usually its 197.5in the morning. I've been the same since I got pregnant. I NEED to loose weight to get pregnant again. So much that that depends on. Anyways, do you have AIM?? I can walk you through making the ticker. Its REALLY easy.....the site will walk you through it, actually. Go to the website by clicking on my ticker and just go from there....try it and see if you can do it. Then I will tell you how to have it as your signature...it gives you the coding. smile

Okay...here's a thought for you dieters. I got an e-mail thingy that said if you make a negative New Years Resolution you WONT keep it...so it advised that instead of saying "I am going to lose 30lbs" you say "in 2005 I will maintain 140 lbs" and then work on getting there and maintaining it. Duh Just a thought! I personally have only kept one New Years resolution and that was not to ever make any more! I use to weigh 265 and tried EVERY diet on the face of the earth, lost 100lbs twice. Then when I lost my son in an auto accident I got down to 92lbs and have been trying to GAIN weight for the past 4 yrs!!!! From my experience I can tell you that the best way to loose is small meals several times a day...and NO diet stuff. Diet soft drinks have been proven to keep you from loosing wieght...haven't had one in years. My Doc says "no diet stuff" eat what you want in SMALL portions and excersize. (which I have personally never done)

Oh, Cricket...that sounds awesome.
I hope you have some beautiful pictures to look at of that day.
Weddings are so beautiful. I cry at ALL weddings, even ones on T.V. shows! So, I know tomorrow I better take a towel with me to a very special wedding. My mom and dad are getting married again. She's 67, and he's 68.

Do you have your dress yet, Dianna? It sounds like it's going to be a great wedding! I really like outdoor weddings. I found out I was pregnant about a month or so after I started planning our wedding, and less than a week after I had ALREADY BOUGHT my dress. First, we planned to let the dress out, but the weight piled on, so the store let me exchange my beautiful little 8 for a 12, then we had to let THAT out, and finally I had to buy a BRAND NEW DRESS 6 days before the wedding.

Jenn, I don't guess I have AIM, because I don't know what that is. ?? Duh That's the other reason I need to lose weight, because we've been thinking about trying to get our son a brother or sister, and I'm terrified of starting where I am and gaining another 70 pounds. Not that that would necessarily happen, but it COULD. Anyway, I'll check out that ticker link tonight.

Vanessa- I'm so terribly sorry that you lost you son in such a tragic way. No parent should ever have to go through that.
But I think you're right about being positive. How about, "I WILL fit in to an 8 again!"

Cindy- That's so great! Good for your Dad and Mom, and may they have many more happy years!

Hmmm. Hey, Jenn! I set up a ticker, but sure enough, can't figure out how to make it my signature. I tried cutting and pasting the links in my profile. I tried the top link that they give you, and also the html one, cause I thought this board used html.???

I guess I need to make the resolution to keep my car cleaned out and drive by the recycling bin at least ONCE a week.

AND to not start smoking again, and to engage in a healthier lifestyle including diet and exercise. The list could go on and on, as usual, but I have about the same list every year. angell

Cindy, we don't have any horses lined up, but a neighbor down the street has some. We may just have to ask him about renting them to us. It would be fantastic to meet my cowboy at the hitching post on a horse!

Geegeeburr, we haven't ordered my dress yet. The dress that I want, they are out of in my size. They only have XS and 2X left. I know I will not be able to get down to an XS and I don't think that I can eat enough to get to the 2X size in 6 months. I will probably have to find something different. It's a shame, though, because the outfit I wanted, I really liked alot. It is hard for me to find clothes that I like. When I do, they are either too small or too large. Sometimes I dislike Eve for eating that apple! laugh My skin is the only thing that fits right, even though it is starting to "droop" a little here and there. shocked

A resolution that I would love to be able to make and keep would be to quit smoking. I always mess that one up, so I no longer try. My resolution usually lasts for five minutes after the new year starts. Willpower is definitely something that I don't have! Or should I be praying for "won'tpower"? You know..."I won't smoke that cigarette", or "I won't eat that candy bar!" <img border="0" alt="[perplexed]" title="" src="graemlins/confused.gif" />

I went to a wedding where the groom was in overalls and the bride, decked out in white/veil etc., rode down the isle on a donkey. Personally at that particular wedding I couldn't tell which was the real a$$....the one she was on or the one in the overalls! It was kinda cute tho...there were bails of hay for seating instead of chairs and an outhouse was the cake topper.

Cindy, I am with you on the sig....we might have to compare Arkansas & Kentucky stories! I changed it because I got in trouble(keyboard in mouth syndrome) with the other one...now I am scaring People! !

Dianna, don't be scared honey...I LOVE being married....I wouldn't want to be dating or single for anything in the world. Dating is more frightening than marriage...

And to answer the burning question about why she rode down the isle on a donkey....Arkansas...there are all kinds of crazies here. I didn't personally know the people getting married. I just catered it and had to do the cake with the outhouse on it (why did they do that?) I personally like to stick to tradition. An outdoor traditional wedding is the most beautiful wedding there is...and I have been to thousands of weddings (about 4 a week-end for years)some of the more simple weddings were the most beautiful.

Geegee,

The top one is the one that you want. You have to put it in the signature as an image, not a link, so its not a simple copy and paste thing. What I did was go to a thread and click "reply" then I hit the "image" button on the bottom and pasted the link that I copied. You know how when your still writing your post, you can see the UBB coding? Well, Then I copied that whole thing and pasted it into my signature in the profile page. You have to make sure that there are no extra spaces on either end of the coding. smile You can do it...I know you can!! thumbup

I just played around to get mine to go up. Ok, I just copied and pasted the entire BB code that it gives you...the entire thing, but with no extra spaces. Try it again, take your time, if it doesn't work, then tonight we will try to get it up. smile

Hey, Jenn! Okay, I think I got it--sorta, anyway!

I actually weighed about 2 pounds more than I expected- 196. Putting goal as 140, so 56 lbs to go.
First day of diet going okay- keep staring longingly at the pot of pasta in the fridge, but have only snagged two bites. That's a victory. All candy and sweets are out of the house, AND ALL COKE DUMPED DOWN THE SINK. (That was the hardest thing to do.) All in all, feeling pretty positive about this! Woo-hoo!

Okay, minor disaster on the first day. Baby woke up CRANKY after his nap and proceeded to drive me bat-sh#! all afternoon. (Did I mention I'm a stress eater?) I had sent hubby to work with the remains of his b-day cake (hubby's birthday is New Years), and with half a giant dark-chocolate Hershey bar so it wouldn't be in the house. Apparently people ate the cake, but he came home towing the Hershey bar. Oh yeah, you guessed it- BOOM, GONE.
So, wow, only on the wagon for about 17 hours. So now I'm taking deep calming breaths, saying it's not the end of the world, just get back on the horse. I CAN do this, I CAN!!! I cheated on my first day of Weight Watchers, too. frown

How's it going for you gys, Jenn, Dianna?

Ok...Dad Gum It...I'm gonna join you guys. I don't eat sweets, chips, etc,I'm more of a meat, potato, pasta type gal. I'm gonna start working out like I used to. I used to be a size 8 and am now a size 14. I know its probably kinda dorky, but I kept trim by working out to Richard Simmons "Sweating to the Oldies" tape shocked I allowed life to take over and stopped working out and have suffered the consequences frown

If ya'll can take the time to get in shape...I CAN TOO! I won't put a ticker, but I need to lose about 40lbs myself. Well then I might put a ticker, but shocked . Dad Gum It laugh

Hey, Mel, I'm already ON that diet!
I thimk that's the only way I've managed to stay BELOW 200!
'Course, now no caffiene, 'cause no Coke. Guess I'll just have to make up for it with the nicotine. (Yeah, yeah, I know. That'll be NEXT New Years.)

YAAAAY, G-mom! Welcome aboard! You know, if you click on Jenns link to that ticker place, you can make a ticker that just counts pounds- you don't have to post your actual weight. Man, you're lucky about the working out. I hate aerobics, and any other kind of exercise just makes me bulk up. One year, I was swimming 45 minutes to an hour a day, 6 days a week- gained 15 pounds. Another time, I was training for the San Diego Marathon, ran or walked anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half a day, plus 6-8-10-12-15 mile jogs on weekends. STILL gained 15 pounds!!! I'm just gonna stick to walking this time.

Ya know, it's not dorky. I don't care what folks say about Richard Simmons.. his workouts are FUN, and the best at working with REAL SIZED PEOPLE. I have a couple of those tapes, and back when Steve was in the Gulf War (the first time, in '91), I lost something like 30lbs, and went from about a size 20 to a 14 in just about 6 months time. Ok, maybe that doesn't seem like much, but hey, it was a big difference to me. I should dust them off, and start sweatin again! teech

I think i'm gonna give more people help when i see that they're in need of it smile normally when i come to this forum, and check the gardening forums to see if anyone needs help with something, i skip over the ones that i can help with cuz they already have answers on them. But a buncha sets of answers can often times help someone ^.^ I've found this to be true with me!

*thinks some more*
I'm definately gonna love my boyfriend ^.^

I'm gonna beep at people when they cut in front of me!! omg i never beep at stupid people >.< i just "EEK!" and hope they don't hit me o.O

I'm too skinny >.< I'm gonna try and gain some weight by like, exercising or something lol. *thinks* ever notice how they say to eat right and exercise for people who want to gain weight, and to people who want to lose it?

I know i'm not the only one guilty of this, so here goes: I'm gonna shave my legs on a regular basis even though its winter!

Ima stop chewing on my guitar picks *looks around... spits out guitar pick*

And as usual, i'm gonna try to be the nicest sweetest person i can be ^.^

I know this one's on Samuel L. Jackson's list, but its on mine too! lol: "Continue to kick ***!"

Hey, i heard that there's some girl on the forum that's 25 lbs underweight. Maybe SHE should get all those chocolate bars and diet breaking things that cause people to gain weight and lose their diet plan thereby breaking their newyears resolution, but giving her stuff would be helping hers, though exercising would probably be a better idea, cuz she'd gain weight in muscle rather than fat, and junkfood isn't good for exercising anyway, so you shouldn't send her junkfood *deep breath* ya...

I am resolved that I will explore my inner potentials and find a fuller expression of the things that matter.

I am resolved that as I continue to work on my exterior self, I will not neglect my interior self.

So that I become wiser, more serene, have greater poise. I want to cultivate kindness and learn ways to express it with sincerity to help others accept it as genuine.

I am resolved that I will begin to try to spend a portion of each day in God's time, be that through meditation or prayer or quiet ponderings on lovely things, heedless of the ticking clock, ignorant of the ringing phone.

I am resolved that I will spend love with both hands, giving all that I have got for as much as the journey remains to me. We may not reach any particular goal we have in mind, but I am determined we will enjoy the route and end with no regrets.

I remember when I had problems gaining weight, too! I was a size 3 the first time I was married. Way too skinny. I wish my body could remember how to not gain weight now. I think it developed Alzheimer's disease when it got to the age of 40! Almost 46 now and I am hoping to lose at least 10 pounds by May 14!

Thanks for the wedding tradition link! I have been on-line looking at other wedding dresses since I won't be able to choose the one I want. ters I haven't been able to find anything that I like.

I seem to remember seeing a couple of videotapes around here that Jim has. "Sweatin' to the Oldies" might be the way for me to lose the weight I need or to firm it up if I can't! It would be my luck to gain weight, though, instead of lose it! wink

This is my most favorite tip for all my dieting buddies, the single most helpful thing I have learned for sustained weight loss. And believe me, I have lost a ton or two....

Early on in the process, knowing I wouldn't maintain an unrealistic diet plan for the rest of my life, I simply started trying to become aware of the quality and quantity of everything I ate.

It wasn't a big, obvious-to-anyone-else deal, and it wasn't the least bit radical. I just began asking myself small questions such as "Yes, I do want a baked potato, but MUST I have it with this, this AND this?" How would it be with only this and that? Just merely seeking options. Same with favorite recipes...if I leave something out, is it still good?

The next part was becoming aware of the difference between how much I wanted to eat vs. how much I needed to eat and over time, I found myself eating less and less in a painless sort of way. Two sandwiches, for instance, became one and a half, which later became one. Now I only eat a half a sandwich at a time. One big scoop of something delicious got smaller and smaller as I learned I needed much less than I thought I did.

These tools were valuable to me simply because I must live on a very careful diet for the sake of my health. I never deprive myself of anything, I never go without something I truly enjoy. Few people who are around me frequently ever even notice that I diet conscientiously because I grant myself such freedom within the limitations I know are best for me.

And the truly remarkable thing is, these slight, barely noticable changes really add up to a giant difference over time.

Becoming aware of what we do and how and why we do it can all be for the good if we let ourselves choose sane options here and there every now and then.

Not sure. I would have to look at the coding to know for sure. You can copy and PM it to me if you want the whole thing to be a link...I can look at it and see what I can do. I used to do ALOT of HTML stuff on my old website. I was teaching myself how to do it.

Ok now, I'm trying to remember everything that I wanted to reply to! laugh On New Year's day, I had kraut and potatoes....not too much potatoes because the person who made them put WAY too much garlic for my taste and the kraut had been washed a few times, so it didn't really taste like kraut...which was a little disappointing. Yesterday I didn't eat breakfast and for lunch had a wrap, which was good. I actually only was hungry enough for half the wrap..and thats all I ate. Stephen ended up working until 10:30 and I didn't cook anything, so we did McDonald's for dinner. Am NOT happy about that. But, that's ok...I will get back on track.

I am only weighing myself once a week. I feel that anymore than that will be discouraging to me since a person's weight varies alot day to day. I am going to start exercising. I got a little kit for Christmas that how one of those big balls in it and a couple of weights. So, I think I will alternate between taking my walk (which is 2 miles) and doing that. Did you know that after exercising, your body will burn calories for like another 2 hours after that????

I just had my birthday also, we didn't get any cake. I'm just a tad disappointed by that. This now makes 3 years in a row for that now. My mom and dad used to ALWAYS get me a Carvel cake for my birthday. Don't know if you know what Carvel is...its an ice cream place that makes THE BEST ice cream cakes!!

Personally, I don't get cravings. Every once in a while I will want something sweet, but there is nothing wrong with eating like 10 choc chips. A diet doesn't have to be a torture device...its all MODERATION. You have to figure out how much is too much. How many glasses of Coke is too much? You have to look at the sugar content and the caffeine content. Do you like the flavor? Then get the coke that has no caffeine in it and half the sugar and make sure you only drink it twice a day or something like that. You might do better buying cans instead of a bottle? For candy bars, get those miniature bars and only eat one or two of those a day...not all at once! laugh

I remember now.....shaving. That was what I wanted to comment about!! laugh Anyone have memory pills? I could use them! laugh

So, yeah, shaving. I do not shave too often in the winter....every month or so usually. Usually the hubby doesn't say anything because he doesn't shave his face during the winter! laugh Its not that I mind shaving, I just hate taking the TIME to do it!!! I di keep track of the pits tho....can't stand hair in there!

Hey, not telling you what to do, 'cause I didn't used to be a breakfast eater myself, but did you know that skipping breakfast tends to make losing weight harder? (Or SO THEY SAY)

Amen, Jenn! Me too.

That's for sure. For me, any amount of sugar is too much, da#* it. I can't eat, say, 16 candy corns. I will crave them for the rest of the day, and possibly the following, which is why I try to get everything out of the house. Sometmes, like Merme (I think) said, it's about making better choices. Like, a Healthy Choice fudge bar is ALMOST as good as a milk shake, and MUCH better for you.

Me, the sweets too! Remember the case of 24 aero bars I had to order online a couple months ago- I ate them all but 5 left to put in the kids stockings! (slap on the hand graemlin). The candy binge is over for now but a great substitute for the craving of chocolate is fat free hot chocolate packets, I think that swiss miss makes em and they are only one or two WW points per cup and very tasty.

Hey Cindy, you should live in Maine.

Up here, people don't drive around with bags of cans because we trade them in for five cents each at the bottle and can recycling places or in the recycling machines at the grocery stores. The five cent rule also applies to the plastic two liter bottles and smaller soda/water bottles. Glass bottles are redeemable for fifteen cents.

Some folks earn a living doing that. Maxi cracks me up about what he does with his bottle money....

All year, from September through May, he's been sending his bottle money to an orphanage/school for Native American children in Montana, something he started doing when he was 4. And he does a good job of it, too...the year he was 6, he managed $100.

But -- not from June through August. The bottle money from June through August is what he spends for himself and his friends on the Ice Cream Truck!

It just amuses me so that the Indian children can have all the money he earns in the world except for what he intends for ice cream! Now is this a kid who has his priorities straight or what?!

When I lived in Michigan one summer, (in college), every time someone had a party, it was an understood rule that you left all your empty bottles as the "price" of the party. They had really high recycle values there, like 10 cents a bottle or maybe more... At the end of the summer, the guys behind us, who lived in the "party house", had enough recycling money to buy all the booze for their final party.

Merme, that Maxi sounds like such a great kid. smile

And Belinda, that's an excellent resolution! I think it's one that most of us need. Good luck with it. smile

I'm not too skinny or fat and no matter what I eat or don't eat I weigh the same. When I work out regularly I can tell that I tone up but my weight never changes. So after reading all your posts I thought "I don't need to diet but I can certainly eat better." I know that we are what we eat and WE make the choice to be healthy or to eat junk. This morning I ate Total cereal with blue berries and had some green tea. A lot of fiber and antioxidants there. I did have 1 Pepsi this morning, which is a great improvement over the 4-5 I usually have. I ate a good lunch and less of it. I drank 4 glasses of water. But when I got home everything fell apart. I ate a sub sandwich, a whole bag of chips, a whole pack of peanut M&M's and a Pepsi. I've seen a lot of thin people at the hospital with heart problems, high blood pressure, colon cancer...a lot of things that recent research says is diet related. What's the secret for after 5?
