I have a new aloe plant (again). Never seem to have much luck with them but this time I am using cactus soil instead of regular potting soil. I think my problem may be in the watering. I have been told to water from the bottom but is bottom watering necessary with cactus soil. My mother has them around her house in Az so I know they don't get watered from the bottom. And I probably tend to overwater. This is a potted plant since I live in Ok and will have to bring it in during the winter.

Bottom watering is never necessary and is often fraught with problems.

Top water thoroughly until some water runs through the drainage holes. Wait for the soil to dry out as far down as you can poke your finger before watering again.

Using too large a pot is often a cause of plant problems, especially succulents. The pot should be barely big enough to hold the plant snugly.
