I have a huge hardy Hibiscus.. and I am seeing holes in all the leaves!! shock I am NOT happy. What can I do.. ?? I thought about getting some Sevin Dust and giving it a good dusting..

I haven't seen any perpetrators on the plant.. so I don't know if it is worms/caterpillars or other bugs of some sort.

Anyone else have this problem? Should I post a picture?

Thanks!!!

I bet it's earwigs or slugs. To catch them (to see which is doing the damage) you'll have to go out at night with a flashlight or very early morning. That's when they're at work.

If it is slugs (and it usually is!) they're pretty easy to get rid of with "Garden Safe" bait (or any bait that has iron phosphate as the active ingredient). It kills them fast and is safe for pets/wildlife. You'll have to reapply it every couple of weeks for a bit, until you get all the slugs in different life stages gone.

Japanese beetles LOVE hibiscus...I have to spray mine often or they'll eat holes in every leaf.

I have a hardy hibiscus that has holes in the leaves too! I would like to also know what to put on them!

Alan, what do you use to spray on yours? Would Sevin Dust work ok?

Thanks GardenKitten.. I don't have any kind of Garden Bait.. Will have to see about getting something though, that is for sure.
