I am going to plant a variety of tomatoes this year and am reading on the stickers too plant them 2/3 into the dirt. I have a couple questions, first is that 2/3rds including the the root that is already there or just from the top of the dirt 2/3rds up? Second, do I cut off all the leaves/shoots that will be buried when planting that deep or leave everything on the plant? Only reason I'm asking the second question is because I've always thought you were not suppose to let the leaves touch the dirt for fear of mold or disease. BTW, most of the plants will be Early girls, Mr. stripeys, and Medfords and maybe one cherry 100.

Welcome, topthumb. Pinch off the leaves that will touch the soil. Plant with the tops just above the soil line. New roots will grow from the stems where leaves were removed and your plant will be generally stronger.
I hope I helped. Good luck!

Tina is right, the deeper the tomato plant...the stronger it grows.

~~Tam~ You can bury all your troubles by digging in the dirt.

If you have access to some freshly caught Fish you might want to try digging your hole a tad deeper , drop a small or halfe a bigger fish into the hole , handfull of lime over the Fish , some soil with a wee bit of slow release fertiliser , soil and then the plant.
Did so this year and most plants strong healthy and loaded with Fruit..
