I love pies of most descriptions, but for Christmas I must have Oatmeal Cookies (my grandmother's recipe) and Divinity.

Our musts are divinity... and lemon meringue pie.. we make lots of sugar cookies to cut out and bake to decorate and we usually make a gingerbread house-- I buy the kits though- much easier...LOL! Boys love to decorate them...

Cheesecake is one of my favorite year round deserts hehe; I'm a sucker for a good cheesecake...

I've made a few over the years; one of my favorites is a cheesecake with a pumpkin cheesecake layer on top... yummy

Sheri, they are not that hard to make really. My opinion is start with a plain cheesecake to get the method down---then if you think it was worth it, then you can go onto things like James' pumpkin cheesecake

if you lived closer, I would give you my stationary GE mixer, Sheri. It is a nice one & while several years old, in very good condition as I dont use a stationary one much. I can get rid of it, as my Sister got a new "pink" Kitchen Aide stationary mixer & gave me her old one. (can you imagine?)

so now as soon as I get my new Over-the-range Microwave I will have counter space for that one & will not need the old one.

Ya never know, maybe Santa will bring you one.

My neighbors just want me to fix their computers... If they invited me over for a beer or a glass of wine or something I think I'd be more willing to drop things when they start whining...

I won't be getting a stationary mixer. I had not idea they cost more than $200.00 for a decent one. I don't mix enough for that kind of money.

yea, I can't say I ever used a stationary mixer for my cheesecakes anyway. I have a nice hand mixer and it works jsut fine---But I do not think I would buy a cheap one & use it for that--go kinda mid ranged for a hand mixer. (if ya get one)

I have a stationary one.. only cause my dd and sil gave it to me for Christmas a couple yrs ago.. never had one before that... I do use it for banana bread , I make it in big batches and it works really well for that... or big batches of mashed taters for the freezer... holiday meals etc... it does take up a lot of space in my cupboards... I have a port one too that I use for everyday kind of stuff...

I have a hand held one but the cream cheese pound cake has to be mixed evenly so I don't know if the hand held would work. I whipped up some whipped cream the other day and sure would have been nice to be able to walk away from the mixer.

You know I would research the situation....I bet there are less costly stationary mixers for sale. As far as the hand held being able to do the job--why not mix it all as much as you can then divide it in half & mix each half--then re-add the 2 portions together with a spatula ??? why

Walmart here has stationary mixers for $40...for that price you can't go wrong. It's a Proctor Silex 225W and has lasted me longer than any other mixer I have ever owned.

Junie, I saw this recipe on Cooks Country and they were very specific about the mixing because this cake doesn't have baking soda. If it's not mixed correctly it won't rise correctly.

I don't need to make it anyway. Johnny doesn't eat sweets so whatever I make I am compelled to eat and I don't need the calories.

LOL---Rod (my DH) can sniff out a sweet from miles away. If I have a cake made, & sitting on the counter in the kitchen, he cannot sleep--he has to get up in the middle of the night (or twice) to eat some. he will stop easting supper for fear of NOT having room for "dessert" teach
