This big building on the right was a hotel with a big bar downstairs. It was a historical building, one of the first in Phoenicia. The owner had it for sale for years. He wanted $1.4million for it.(then only $1million later) Had over $400,000 in loans from banks to do work on it. Got offers he deemed weren't enough. It had foundation problems and a hole in the roof. No repairs were done. Out back he or others had piled huge amounts of garbage in an alley between 2 parts of the building. (can you say rats!?)

Last night, around 1am... fire! The first firemen werent enough manpower to keep it under control. Other companies were called in. Too late.

That is scary, you are awful close to that building!

Do they know what caused it yet?

At least you're alright, though I can't say 1.4M is a reasonable price for the building, and I don't think it was wise to have piled up garbage...just goes to show how easily our history can be forgotten and lost

Its ben empty for a while. no one inside when it caught. No official cause yet. We all suspect "insurance lightning". Especially with it starting out back where noone could see. hmmmm

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Wrennie, I'm so glad that YOU and YOUR STORE are OK!!!

When you started talking about the financial problems, and then the fire happening at that time of night the first thought I had was insurance fraud!!!
I shudder to think of the devastation to that lovely street if it hadn't been contained!!

**UPDATE**
Rumor has it {I repeat rumor} the current owner doesn't have insurance. That he let it lapse! shock I really hope they find it was someone partying out back, or someones burning garbage cinders jumped the fence so to speak. Theres has been no electricity in the place for a while so it Cant be electrical. My friend who owns the liquor store in town has been in negotiations to buy it for a while. I saw him yesterday evening and said I think the hotel needs a bit more work now. I dont know how much he was planning on doing in the first place. He did say someone told him there is alot of damage but the bar wasn't touched! I guess there were some spirits there protecting their 'place'.

Ray (a guy in town) said the banks roof shingles were melted in spots. I have to go get a pic from that end.

As you can see they started boarding up windows and doorways. I wonder how long it will sit. Too bad. It could have been quite a place with the right owner. Now theres rumor my bank wants to put in drive through and make the hotel property parking. tears *sarcasm* yeah that will bring lots of people to town rolz I wish someone had done something sooner. Jerks. It had 4 retail spots along the front. More reasons to come to town. now dead emptyness.
