A few weeks ago I posted a couple of mystery's This one had some good guesses ,But nothing was confirmed.., It does have stong smelling leaves Maybe close to oregano but very stong! Now it is huge and is flowering on the top, I'm going to go ahead and cut it down and dig up the roots because it is crowding a brug plant and blocking light. The stocks coming from the ground are really thick and sturdy, I don't have anything else in the yard growing like this , But It's time for it to go here is the height it got.. Here are the buds starting to flower presuming it's going to seed. The leaves are soft to the touch and the smell on my fingers have to be washed off .......... Anyone want to give it any more guesses?

Wow, that grew! I have no idea. The smell, is it good or bad? I would still wait until the first flowers opened for a better ID. But don't let it seed if it's a weed. It really is a nice looking plant.

I really wanted to cut it down today! BUt I'll wait untill the buds flower, Like Tina said maybe better for a quicker id? Tina In my opinion the smell of the leaves stink but maybe because it's sooo strong , I don't even have to rub the leaves just touch them,, Lynne it did get huge seems like over night , I tried pulling it out of the ground yesterday But it didn't give an inch, I'm going to have to dig it out!

Could it be a Eupatoreum (Joe Pye weed)? I have 2 that grow upwards of 10 ft. and the leaves look very similar. They reseed easily, too.

I looked up joe pye weed up and it certainly looks like it by the leaves, and the cluster of flowering at the top, other characteristics are the same as well, I believe it may be that Alan! Thanks soo much !!!!!!!

There are several different types, but they look similar except for the rugosa type, aka. chocolate joe pye weed, which has dark leaves and white flowers.
