All I can say is... [color:#3333FF]WOW!!! I planted this hydrangea as a small bush, for my mom in their garden about 2 years ago for mother's day. I also planted one here for myself, but don't have enough shade, really, so it only has a few leaves and no flowers. I am soooooo JEALOUS! Just LOOK at the color!!! (these pictures were NOT enhanced, and blue is a hard color to photograph on flowers!)
the young flowers are so pretty too, with the white and blue edges! My mom actually preferred them last week, before they turned all blue - too bad I didn't have my camera with me then...
it's absolutely lovely! i only wish i had pics of my hydrangea to share. i had no idea it needed shade until now. no wonder my small, drooping plant is pitiful looking.
Life can be crazy. Digging in the dirt keeps me sane.
It's hard to find a hydrangea with that niec blue colour! Excellent flowers!

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee
Lynne WOW!!!!!!!!!!! is right what a stunning color. I'm so glad yours is doing so well.
I planted a hydrangea at least 4 years ago and every year it came up and turned into a beautiful bush but no flowers, this year it's such a pitiful small little bush and low and behold there are buds. I don't know what happened, I'm hoping it will grow some more leaves yet.

My nikko blue gets blue like that maybe a lil darker. It bloomed wonderful the year after hurricane rita after recovering from stuff 'blown' onto it.It wasn't as dark this year. This is my one shrub I relocated it from my SIL house after the fire,so its doing great this year.almost the same color range as my others in yard.I had to give this some acidic fertilizer to correct a nutrition defiency.I prefer the liliac tones to the blue(well ....I have niko blue...so why turn it?) flowers/June262007hygrandgea.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>
THAT is a pretty shade of blue.I can't find none of my niko shots to share.
I will age ungracefully until I become an old woman in a small garden..doing whatever the Hell I want!
I was back at my parents' house on Saturday and happy to see that the bush is still in full swing. Thought I'd share a few more pictures with you all...
Carol - I just HAD to chuckle when I read your question! My mom does not do a thing with plants except overwater them from time to time! I have noticed that all the hydrangeas in their neighborhood have a deep blue coloring to them - must be the soil they all have over there. (They are on the other side of the Hudson River from us.) Their soil is much richer than the hard, clay soil we have here too.
Dulcimie - I have a small hydrangea that I started from a very small cutting that broke off of one of my plants many years ago. I simply stuck it in some soil and kept it in the shade the first summer. I was sure not to let it get dried out, and it survived our cold winter, surprisingly.
I was planning on taking some cuttings from my lacecap hydrangea soon - it's getting too big for the area I have it in. Let's keep in touch about how they are doing, ok?
