This spring I transplanted part of my grandmother's lilac to my yard. I noticed it, and the main plant I got it from have a white chaulky covering on the leaves. The old plant seems fine other than that, any ideas as to what this is and if I need to do anything to my new transplant.

Welcome to the forum, Mosh. Try looking up powdery mildew. That sounds like your problem, maybe. It can cause leaf drop after a while. A quick organic fix is soda water, Yes just the mixer. Spray it on the leaves. It does help.
Sometimes very hard water can leave mineral deposits on leaves too. I've never had it cause any problems though.

I've gotten those white leaves on my lilacs too. If I remember right it was during very damp weather (powdery mildew) and cleared up with the weather.
I never heard of the soda water thing Tina, Thanks!
