Ih ave an acorn tree that's been here since I moved in 10 years ago. It has green 'fruit' on it right now; funny - I've never noticed them before! About the size of a golf ball. My aunt who lived here before us said she got the tree from somebody in town who had them shooting up all over from the seeds, now it's a beautiful tree in my front yard. How can I plant these seeds? I'm guessing that's what these big green things are?

Acorns come from oak trees. There are lot's of different types. The trick with acorns most places is to get them before the squirrels do. Here the problem is birds. The woodpeckers love the scrub oak acorns. When the acorns are ripe (turning brown) I would just try planting a few an inch or two under the soil and see what happens.

acorn is the fruit of an oak. but, they are not "golf ball" size. you may have a walnut or a hickory.
I love the sweet scents wafting in the breeze. I stop to admire the vibrant colors of all living things. And people think me odd. Then ODD I am!!!

it certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a try!!
is that tree native to your area? if so, then the seeds will probably need some cold before they will germinate...it may also take some time stratification and/or soaking to help them along, too.
contact your county extension service to have them give you a definite name for the tree. they may also be able to provide you with the correct procedure to use to get the seeds to germinate.
if they can't, at least get the scientific name of the tree so you can do some googling to get the info.
good luck! it's a pretty tree!

What's the name of the oak tree that has oval stickery leaves that hurt when you step on them? We have those wild here, in our mountains. The leaf is rather like a holly leaf. Our acorns aren't the rounded ones, ours are long and skinny and usually have lost their hats.
