My DH and I saw one of these out in the woods behind our house while we were out picking mustang grapes but the stripes came all the way down the wing, but it was beautiful. I thought it was a tiger swallowtail but if it is not a monarch I'm not that great with butterflies lol. Thank you for showing I was right.

you might see some there on their site that you won't see fly in your yard.I'm still chaseing a yellow sulpher whos very very human AND camera/video shy.(I haven't veiwed videoclip yet)
I seen some of these swallowtail yesterday and they had longer thinggys out the back and the blue was more brighter,I've also seen them where the black stripes went all the way across the wings. Also more coropative.

I'm glad I joined this group. I was just out in the field trying to get a pic of a Hawk sitting at the edge of the woods. When this little guy lit on some thistle. I was going to search Google for it. But it's right here already. Thanks Njoynit.

This time of year we birders switch over to butterflies and other insects when the birds go dormant due to the heat.
