I haven't been here for a while - we had a terrible, terrible can't even come close to describing it, hail/wind storm go through North Dakota Sunday around supper time. 70 mph wind and golf ball size hail for 15 minutes. We were in the basement when my husband heard the trees falling and the roof on the quonset peeling back and the sparks from the electrical poles outside. I can't even describe how destructive it was here. Farmers that have been around for 70 years can't remember having a storm like this - hail, yes, but not this widespread and not this damaging. It looks like the fields have already been combined. Even pictures can't come close to -- I'm speechless -- been lots of crying around here the last 2 days. My yard was so pretty this year, the crops were gorgeous and the prices on the crops were at an all time high. We are still cleaning up - going to take a while to pick up the trees - it's just....

It's hard to describe this storm - it was about 15 miles wide and 50 miles long - and it didn't hop this field or let up here and there, it was section after section after section totally wiped out. Between my husband and his friend who get their machinery together every fall to harvest together, they go over 5,000 acres of land - they figure there is about 600 acres that isn't totally gone that they will at least try to combine. Another farmer/friend of ours - he and his brother have 6400 acres, and maybe 900 is harvestable.

WOW Patty! I am sooooo sorry you've had such a destructive storm come through!
I can't even imagine having to deal with all that - wish I could be there to help.

I'm out of tears - I can't cry anymore - it was so scary - and now it's so sad. People everywhere have the same damage to their yards and crops - 15 miles wide and 50 miles long!!!!

I am so sorry those pictures do tell a sad story. I can't believe how decimated the corn/bean fields are. At least your perennial will bounce back next year. But such a tough crop loss. I am so sorry.

Thinking and praying for you Patty. kissie

As a farmer myself, I know the loss of a crop is just like a death in the family. I am so sorry.

I'm so sorry, your yard looks so nice! Crop damage is fixable, maybe they'll fix themselve?

I made this birdhouse with my son, made it from tree branches we were cleaning up after the storm boohoo and an old wine barrel that was broken. Pretty cute! Had to make lemonade out of lemons. This bed is perking up a bit, still missing a lot that I had to throw away though.
