I'm not sure but I think a swallow made a pass at me today. lol

Or in another words...one of the young swallows brought me a seed head and some grass. I was wondering if it was planning on building a nest on the a/c unit where I put their food?

Sounds like nesting material. Swallows are strictly insect eaters. Is that who you meant you feed?

These are swallows and they eat wheat seeds. They are the little brown ones. They get black caps and breast as they get older.

Isn't it the wrong time of the year to be building a nest?

Not trying to be a pain here sorry...
my BF calls our sparrows swallows all the time.
The house sparrow has a black cap as he matures and they are seed eaters. I looked at all the swallows in north america and I am finding that they are insectivores and rarely berry eaters, they mostly all use mud to build their nests too. so,,, back to the house sparrow, who is very comfy around people and man made stuff (like A/C units) likes grass seeds and grain seeds (like wheat), they build their nests out of grass, weeds and twigs and will nest 2-3 times a year.
this him?

You have a male House Sparrow rather than a swallow I think.

yep it's a sparrow. I don't know why I typed swallow. Except that I am slowly getting a condition for the long term depression that looks like early altimers. I expect that's what's causing alot of my posts being unclear. With word usage that just doesn't make any sense.

I'm so sorry for the confusion.

So they nest several times a year. That must be what is going on. He was busy feeding his girlfriend the other day. It was so cute.

I am going to miss them so much next week while I am away.

I'm going to dump a good sized pile of seeds on the a/c unit to hold them over for the time I am gone.

If you don't mind I have one more question. The fireplace ash that I use for my garden. Would they like a bowl of that to bath in?

I know birds use dust baths... ash... I don't know for sure. Is there a spot on the ground you can dump some? If you dig up an area of grass and add sand and keep it weeded, mix the sand with the soil a little they'll dust bathe in that. So a definite maybe. I'm not sure.
