I took my catapillar plant outside for the summer. And it got sunburned something awful. But it was trying to recover so I brought it back inside. I put it in a shallow wide planter but it still needs something larger. I'll have to see what I can find.
Is there a treatment for sunburn on plants? It's not like I can put it in a vinegar bath like I do myself when I get sunburned.
scientific name: Dudleya gnoma McCabe, common name: Dudleya 'White Sprite'
I'm so sorry I don't have a picture. It's a catapillar plant because it has a vine like growth pattern and it raises it's leaves and moves towards the sun just like a little catapiller. It is such a cutie.
Is this your plant? http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Crassulaceae/Dudleya_gnoma.html If so, it will tolerate any sun you can give it as long as it is eased into it. Yeah, every spring I sunburn something; this year it was my favorite Aloe Lineata. Ah, well. They, and we, get through it. At this point, keep it dryish so you can see where it will die back to without rotting it, and then cut off all damaged parts. Then water as it wants for the summer. Pretend nothing bad happened to it and ease it into the great outdoors as you wanted to do in the first place. Plants live a long time, and teach us how to be patient. In 2 years you will look at it and not know anything happened to it. In the mean time, enjoy its efforts at recovery. My A. Lineata has put out new leaves that are adapted to the sun. It looks awful, but all the leaves it now has will be gone in another 6 inches of growth, and it will get to about 6 feet at maturity. It (they) grow(s), I (we) learn, all is well. Good luck.
Hey, Dodge! No, I'm not a scientist (would I have been one if I had believed I could have been when I was younger? Maybe, who knows? My mother told me I could be a teacher or a secretary until I got married and had kids...) I'm a medical lab tech. Someone else draws your blood and I find out what's in it.
Ha ha Your name just seem so firm, like that...Nice name too. Lab tech.........Least it pays well......Kind of a tricky place to be today. With the bloom stuff....

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
That is so cool. I believe I read somewhere that it was named after the person who discovered it.
This is probably closely related to the one I have. There are differences though. Mine is smooth rather than fuzzy. And mine is more vine-y rather than rosette-y. But this is the closest picture I have ever found to what I have. Also the colors on mine are clearer and more defined.
Anyway I love my little baby. The next time it starts new babies maybe we can try to trade it somehow if you really want one. But it would have to be overnight. This little critter realy doesn't like change at all.
Yes it is a perennial. And in the spring it blooms with little pink flowers. They are currently trying to come back. So far the stems have stood back up but they haven't opened yet. I thought they would die back but most of them are doing their best to recover.
I will definitely keep this one indoors after this.
