I just planted everbearing strawberries this year and I know I have to snip the runners and I have been snipping the flowers as well.

My question is for how long should I snip the flowers, when can I let the strawberries start to grow. I know I'm kind of anxious, but this is my first year with them.

let them grow now so they have time to have a decent harvest. just make sure you don't have too many blooms on any branch at one time.

Strange, my gardening season is so far behind everyone elses but yet my berries were ripening the first of July as well.

Forgot to add, the first year I planted, I just removed blossoms until the end of June on the everbearing, at least you'll get a few in the fall this way.

I have Tristar, what did you plant?

Mine are called Fort Laramie. They have lots of blooms so I'm sure we'll get a handful each.

Good pick, that's the hardiest everbearing berry available.

My strawberries are blooming quite heavily, so I'm really looking forward to some "real strawberries". Store bought ones don't come close to the home grown ones.

I dont understand the problem here, I have everbearing as well. Quinalt type, and the strawberries are considerably smaller than the store baught steroid fed ones. . . I fertilize mine accordingly and pluck all the runners so far (will let runners grow & plant come fall).

HELP!!! :)

I also used to work on a strawberry farm. Only the biggest and best went in the baskets, hence why they look so nice. The smaller ones were used for desserts.

It's not really the size the I'm interested in, it's the taste. The store bought ones are not as sweet nor the taste as strong as the homegrown ones.

I have found the ones in the stores here are more acidic and less sweet than anything else. I can't buy them too often cause I have an allergy to the acid. I am going to try homegrown next year, xxx, crossing fingers, lol.

June bearing berries are sweeter than an Everbearing variety.

Tamara, should I be using straw already in my strawberry bed as ground cover or mulch?

I have quite a few strawberries ready to eat any day now. I know it's not many according to a berry farm, but it's a start. Hummmmm can't wait to sink my teeth into one of them.

I did, but I used cedar mulch. Which is stupid considering I have a farm and straw. lol

Ok thanks Tamara I'll get my boys to bring me some, wonder how long it will last in this windy area.

We're having high winds today again, actually closed some of my greenhouse windows because of the wind. My poor peppers were whipped something awful before I closed them.

Hey I might just buy some mulch that's a little heavier then straw.
