I found this bug while outside hunting for squash bug eggs and adults and anything else I know I don't want in there. Can anyone tell me what it is and if it's friend or foe?

Thanks, Julianna, it cost enough, it sure had better be good!! I was about 2-3 feet away from my mystery bug when I took the picture.

LandOfOz, I don't know what your bug is either, but wow, an awesome pic for sure. Did you use macro setting? I think you should enter this one in a photo contest!

It is a macro shot, Stephanie. I'm glad you like it. You really think it's that good? It's cropped down too. Thanks for the compliments, you guys are so sweet!

Thanks, Papito, that's it! I read that it's larvae is good for compost piles and for keeping down the maggot population. I'm all for that. Unfortunately they also destroy bee hives. I hope there are no hives near here and I have a compost pile for them if they need it.

Yeah Sarah, I really think it's that good! Enter it, let us know how you make out! Now we do have to watch out for contaminated food right regarding the larve of these soldier flies, yuck.
