I planted a bare root poppy 'Manhattan' about 2-3 weeks ago and I still don't see any green. I am very new to gardening so I am not sure if I am just being impatient but I would think it should be green by now? What can I do???

First of all, welcome! I don't grow poppies so I really can't help you much. But try googling up the topic. Now, I assume the poppy you have is an oriental poppy? Do you mean a bare root plant (as in a palnt with roots but without soil) or root cuttings (roots which have been cut off to produce more plants)? If you are planting root cuttings, this is what Vesey said on their site:

Hardy in zones 3-7.
Oriental Poppy

The plants go dormant in early summer, so plant them near a later blooming perennial, like Echinacea or Gypsophila, or summer-blooming bulbs. (New foliage emerges in fall.) Poppies thrive in any well-drained soil and full sun. Space plants 15"-18" apart with the crown (the point where the roots meet the shoots) just under the soil surface. Deadhead after blooming.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

You probably won't see any growth until fall when the weather gets cooler. Oriental poppies should actually be planted in the fall or early spring. They send up foliage in the fall that can last through winter if you are in a mild zone, otherwise the foliage will die back. Then the foliage returns in early spring and mine usually bloom in May, then go dormant in June not to be seen again until fall, etc.

Thank you for your responses! I have one more question (for the poppy, anyway). Should I feed and water it with the rest of the garden or should I leave it alone?

I would only water when necessary and there's no need for fertilizer at this point. Good luck!
